Two hours of my life I'll never get back
« on: February 12, 2004, 11:43:36 AM »
So the other day I ran into Daredevil on HBO.  I am still traumatized by the stupidity of it.

The sad thing is that I really like Jennifer Garner, and I thought both Bullseye and Kingpin were cool -- but none of that could save such a pathetic, pathetic story--not to mention the lousy special effects, and the ever-unimpressive Ben Affleck.

I want to know how someone who is so easy to beat up ever got to be a superhero in the firstplace.  I'm sure the milkman could have kicked Daredevil's butt.
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier.

duh... he has superpowers.

I didn't think it was that bad, actually. Just ... wholly unremarkable. It IS one of the few superhero movies released recently that I don't have and have no plans to buy. but it didn't anger me.

It didn't anger me, per se.  It just really dissappointed me, and left a rather bad taste in my mouth.  It ended and I thought "That was it?"

I think you just needed to go in with lower expectations. I mean, I saw it in the theater, but before I went in I reminded myself that this was Ben Affleck playing a superhero (one of my favorite superheroes, sadly), and it was dove-tailing on Spiderman's success. So I expected a very mediocre movie, and got exactly what I expected.

Overall it was more enjoyable that way.

Perhaps life in general would be more enjoyable if I just expect more mediocrity.

That's what Dirk Gently would have you believe. The life unburdened by expectations if free of disappointment.

Oh, hey thanks guys - I couldn't remember for the life of me what I'd done on V-day last year, and you just jogged my memory.
We went to see this movie.

I don't know exactly what I did on V-day last year, but I'm sure it was wholly unromantic. However, I was injured two years in a row while at BYU. Do you guys remember me falling down the stairs and spraining my ankle (and breaking my elbow)? That was Valentine's Day, my last year at BYU. And the year before that, a friend's window fell on my arm and I had to have plastic surgery to get the glass out of my wrist (and by window, I mean the broken triangular glass part of it, not the frame).

Yeah, I try to avoid going outside on Valentine's Day nowadays, and it has nothing to do with feeling sorry for myself that I have no man.

Hey, i liked that movie.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

After watching the movie for about half an hour, my brain began to hint at the fact that gnawing my hand off would be a better pastime then continuing to watch it.

It's really unfortunate, because Ben Affleck can be good sometimes, and the guy who played Bullseye (I can't remember his name) has also been good.

Of all the actors in Daredevil, the one you mention as having been good in the past is Affleck?
