Brandon Sanderson / Re: use of steelpulling
« on: March 16, 2008, 01:55:08 AM »
OK, I've been thinking about this, and I" don't think the coin thing would work.  Here's why:

1)Just spinning around wouldn't change the trajectory of the coin, it goes straight towards you front or back, you'd have to be stepping around, essentially running in a circle, this would make you very tired.
2) It's no like swinging womething at the end of a string.  It's moving towards you.  That coin is moving fast enough to pierce skin, to change the trajectory, you'd have to move faster than it is, otherwise it would just crash into you.
3)If you tried to pull it any slower, it probably wouldn't be able to defy gravity and would be dragged towards you on the ground.

Feel free to correct me on any of these points, this is just what I came up with.

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Theory on why Vin is so powerful *spoilers*

Do we know they swelled their ranks???  I know it's hinted at, but I thought it was just a thought on Sazed's part.  He also puts it out of his mind after, however this could be true.

Or, maybe it's the reverse.  They suck the Allomantical powers out of the metals inside them and into their bodies.  The main downfall of Allomancy is that the burner can't get the power in bursts like the feruchemists can (without duralumin that is)  So that would explain why the Inquisitors are so powerful, they can suck the power out in short burst without Duralumin, and then they need to rest while they wait for their metals to "recharge," just like the Well that's controlling them.  Wow what a brain burst! :o

Hemaglobin=blood
Metalurgy= metals
Hemalurgy= blood metals

859
That would make sense, Hemalrugy being like a Hybrid between Allomancy and Feruchemy.  Think of this.  The Inquisitors store attributes in thier spikes, but must rest to do it, but instead of storing feruchemical attributes, the store Allomantical powers.
 I think the Lord Ruler probably would be able to control all the Koloss at once, he had that massive soothing, remember?

Hemlurgy, Alendi, Vin, and the fifteenth metal, they seem to be working their way into multiple threads.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if TenSoon had a viewpoint on his journey home.

Your right sorry :-[, gosh I'm saying emabarassing things, sorry.  I also said somewhere that pewter was external which it isn't so, that was a goof too.

863
It also says Inquisitors need to rest often, what does that have to do with things?  Oh, and I am almost done me reread.  I jsut got past the part where Elend meets up with the Terris refugees, and the man says the inquisitors took the bodies of the keepers with them, what could they be planning.  It also says they were leading Koloss, which means they have figured out the secret like Vin did.

My guess is that only Kandra can kill Kandra, and that is why the Mistborn could kill them.  They are thier own only weakness.  Mistborn can control Kandra, and make them kill eachother.

Ruin definately gained more power when Vin killed the lord ruler: the mists came during the day and started killing, and the Inquisitors lost free will.  Taht however makes me wonder, Zane's apparently been hearing the voice of "God" all his life and Vin's mother heard voices too when the Lord Ruler was still alive.

I agree with the Statlin city theory, and I think it runs true with who the Lord ruler is.  He actaully was very cautious for a person who under almost all conditions needn't fear death.

What I meant by the manner in which he recieved his piercings, I was talking about if their was a ritual sacrifice or not.  I'm guessing not because if there were, wouldn't that be something he would have written about in his log book.  I'm pretty sure the piercings were unique to Alendi to mark him as the hero because he says Rashek was jealous of him and thought he wore the piercings unjustly.  Why would Rashek think it was unjust for a Khlennium person to wear Khlennium piercings?  Also I'm pretty sure they are referred to as the piercings of the hero, which means they were probably unique to Alendi.  It's true the piercings could be hemalurgic, but it could also be they are jsut related to the well spirit.  The Hemalurgists we see in the book depend so much on Allomancy, that I find it hard to believe they existed separately.

You guys are forgetting something though, the piercing Alendi has aren't a Khlennium tradition, they're Terris.  The Terris World Bringers decided he was the Hero, and then gave him the piercings to mark him.  That's why Rashek thinks he wears the piercings unjustly, he thinks a Terrisman should be wearing them, and why would Rashek think a Terris person should wear Khlennium jewelery when he hate Khlennium.  I agree that the piercings (both Alendi's and Vin's) probably help them hear the well of ascension, and have something to do with the well spirit.  For all I know they could be hemalurgy.  But we don't know for sure.  I don't think Alendi had inquisitor of any kind, I think his piercings were external because they marked him as the hero.  I also agree that he must have had some kind of power, to be competent enough for Kwaan to be worried, but I'm not sure it's Hemalurgy.

Vin's so smart!  She's aways coming up with little ideas like that.  ;D

atium is made up, so it would be highly impossible for any of us to tell what it is alloyed with.  I had another little brain burst, about the mists benig gaseous metal on the Ruin/Preservation thread.  I for one still think it's water vapour, but if it was metal it could be the compliment to the metal elend ate: one creates allomancy, the other strengthens it.  Vin does say, she "burned the mists like metal," or something like that.  Just a thought though, so tell me what you think.  There's more detail on the other thread if you want to check it out.
