Video Games / Baten Kaitos
« on: March 19, 2008, 08:02:29 PM »
It's possible there is another thread for this, and if there is I apologize, but Baten Kaitos for gamecube is probably when of the best games I have played.  It's an RPG with an amazing storyline and characters.  The battle system is a little tedious, and sometimes confusing, but on the whole, I loved it.  The second game, Baten Kaitos Orgins, fixes some of the problems- faster paced battle system, characters sharing decks instead of one for each character, but the storyline isn't nearly as good.  The Original just had so many twists and turns, I didn't know what to expect!

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Brandon To Write Wheel of Time Book 12
« on: March 18, 2008, 03:09:50 AM »
Man do I ever feel out of the loop.  I guess that's what I get for staying away from Timewasters for so long.  I was trying to get my mind off mistborn, as I was spending far too much time waiting for Well of Ascension to come out.  Then I got busy, and stopped checking the website for annotations and blog posts.  I admit, when I finally got tired of everything, and nothing was going on on my other forum, I recreated my account only to find that Brandon Sanderson is working on some book called Wot or Wheel of Time, that I regretfully haven't heard anything about.  I'll have to read them, though I am reluctant to get into such a long series.  I guesss I'm the opposite of everyone here, because I have been a fan of Brandon Sanderson from that first day I saw a lone copy of Elantris in Mcnally robinson in Saskatoon.  I preordered both the mistborn books on amazon as soon as I could, and I even read Alcatraz.  I don't think any of you guys need to worry about him wrapping things up, if anyone's read Elantris then the know that he has GREAT endings that thoroughly explaibn pretty much everything (except for Seons grr), and he writes with skill, and has a stupendous amount of creativity (as shown in all his books).  And adult fantasy is definately his forte.  The Mistborn Trilogy is my all time favorite, and I can't wait for the last book.  I'm definately happy to be back on the forums.

Books / Re: review: Stardust

I haven't read any other Niel Gaiman books, but I loved Stardust, I thought it was amazing.  I'm glad I read it before the movie because it kinda fell short in comparison, and I hate how they changed the ending so drastically.  I love the ending of Stardust.  I think it is a fitting, yet sort of melancholy way to end the book.

true, so we have decided that lurchers can be useful for something other than pulling coins away from mistborn, and can fight anyone who can't push or pull metals.

OK, I think I understand now, but I don't think you could make a shield of coins.  First of all, doing this to one coin would take a huge amount of skill, and doing multiple coins at a time would take even more.   And even then, one little push or pull would disrupt the orbit wouldn't it?  All you need is a coinshot or lurcher to push or pull the coins away.

Now another question, do the people being sacrificed have to be of one nationality.  In this case, do they have to be Skaa?  And if so then why.  Maybe the Hemalurgy really is a Skaa power, and that's why the Lord Ruler wouldn't let them breed, however, the power can be passed on through blood.  I'm just spinning thoughts around of course, but I think it's a possibility.

What I really like is the ways he's able to put so much out there, and then make it all work and connect together in the end.  He really makes the reader understand the world of his books which is why we are able to discuss it in such length.

Yes, Zane is definately dead, we've been through this on another thread, and God's words telling him he's not really insane, are the last he heard.

pulling something towards you does not have to make it move towards you.

This could just be me being ignorant, but that sounds kind of contradictory.  I know who Aristotle and Newton were, but I admit physics isn't really my area of expertise, and I admit I could be wrong, just I don't quite get how pulling harder from the same direction would make the coin change trajectory, and besides, you can only pull with iron so hard by flaring, and to pull any harder you'd need Duralumin which would use up all the iron, and a Lurcher wouldn't be able to use duralumin anyway.  From my knowledge, it seems the only way to do this would be to use pushes and pulls, like Kelsier did at the end of MB1.  Sorry if I'm totally off base, as I said, it takes me a while to understand physics.  Would you mind making your explanation a little simpler some of the terminology makes it confusing, at least to me :-[.  Sorry.  I'm sure I could agree with you if I could understand your point.

But then why, like Sazed said, wouldn't they use the slaves for inquisitors instead of killing them all.  I know the blood sacrifice thing, but certainly they wouldn't need al of them, I'm guessing they'd need one secrifice for each spike.

And Duralumin doesn't really strengthen allomancy, it just uses the same amount of power in a short amount of time.
