Been there, done that.  Is there anything new about this idea?
If I had any clue, would I be here?

I could have sworn that I'd reviewed this for TWG before. But as far as the "been there, done that," where? Who? At any rate, I think it handles the idea well. It's both an extrapolation of what happens to language and society in such a culture. It's a good read.

What I meant was, I have seen this same idea several times before and I'm wondering what about this version is new so as to make it worth reading.
If I had any clue, would I be here?

Stacer--Maybe you did.  I didn't go looking.

Sigyn-- It was a good book.  It was well-written.  I didn't feel like it was derivative at all.

If I did, it's been years. I can't remember. Good review, by the way, if I didn't already say it. I just also couldn't remember if it was one of the like six books I've reviewed here.

And I agree, well written and far from derivative. Whether the idea has been done before or not, the book as a whole is fresh and original, and I think he puts a great twist on anything I've seen before about the natural end of consumerism and the way language evolves, not to mention all the other things going on in the book.
