Books / What do you collect?
« on: May 06, 2004, 07:53:12 PM »
Well, we all have our fav. authors and genres, but what kind of books do you collect and show off on your bookshelf/(shelves)?

I love to collect the "real stories," preferably something that I can associate with a movie.  For instance, I have the original story of Peter Pan, 101 Dalmations, Bambi, the Jungle Book, the Boy Who Could Fly, and a couple of versions of Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Aladin (or Arabian Nights, etc.), and Cinderella.  Every single one of which is completely opposite of the movie/cartoon.  Though that may be because Disney always changes its movies.

At the moment, I'm into children's literature and my bookshelf is bursting with books no more than 100-200 pages.  All of it fictional.  And where do I go to get all this great literature?  Why, DI, of course.  Where I can find the best books of my childhood for only 50 cents.

And no, this doesn't belong in the book section:

If anyone was going to make it, I'm glad it's Jackson.  I also can't wait to see how King Kong turns out.  I could never see much of a plot in any of the older King Kongs.  Though this may be due to the fact that I got bored halfway through them and changed the channel.

Everything Else / Hypothetical question
« on: March 06, 2004, 06:59:13 PM »
Your brother's 27th birthday is coming up this Friday.  Now, this is the kinda guy that can buy anything he wants on a whim.  If he wants the complete DVD set of Monty Python, then he'll go out and buy it for himself (even if it's $100).  As such, there really isn't much in your price range that he wants and doesn't already have.

What kind of things would you buy for him?

(I'm especially interested in any suggestions Tage can offer)   ;D

Movies and TV / Trying to remember an old show
« on: February 14, 2004, 07:05:13 PM »
It's not a current show, but I've wasted a ton of time trying to find the name of it.  Some of you guys are older than me so maybe you'll remember this.

It starts out with some kids in a museum.  One of them goes off on his own and falls asleep.  He dreams in claymation (or stop motion) about some cavemen.  One of them is always curious about things and wants to know 'why'.  Eventually, the others kick him out of the cave so he and his animal friends build a house made of stones and a roof with big palm tree leaves.  I think a bear or some other large animal comes into the cave and drives the others away.  They go to the house build by the curious caveman and everyone lives happily ever after learning the new things can be good.  It ends with the boy in the museum waking up and . . . something good happens to him.  Guess he learned a valuable lesson or something.

Oh ya!  While building the house.  The caveman starts singing, "I wonder why...  the birds do fly.  Who tells the sun...  to sleep at night?  I wonder why, why, why, why, wonder, wonder why!"
Any clue about this?

Movies and TV / Lost in Translation

It's rated R, so I'm gonna have to wait to see it.  But the previews really bring back memories of Japan!  The crowded streets all lit with hundreds of signs and lanterns, the small shops made of wood, and the insane television shows that they watch!  My favorite part is Bill Murry trying to understand what the director wants.  I want to see it just to experience what it's like living in Japan again.
