Man-eating Seals
Yeah, seals

Apparently a christian baptizes herself in a bucket of man-eating seals (not eels) when she is to be fed to hungry lions and bears and the lioness protecting her is killed. This is in the apocryphal book of the Acts of Paul.

Liar.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

The only man-eating seals I know of live in the Antarctic.

ok, yeah fine. But the man-eating seals were the cool thing.

Though I suppose they're woman-eating seals. Maybe they don't like men at all. We'll have to drop a male Christian in with them to see if the audience fears for him as well.

see, the problem with that decision, archon, is this is a book of "scripture" that no one believes in. It's apocryphal because people, thousands of years ago, didn't know what seals really were, so it wasn't incredible when someone put that in. However, it fell out of favor well over a millenium and a half ago.

Archon, you should read Mere Christianity.

I reaffirmed my agnosticism so I wouldn't be a candidate for your experiment to see if the seals were man-eating. It wasn't because of an added reason to disbelieve Christianity's teachings.

JadeKnight, I will add it to my list. I currently have about 12 books that I have started reading or want to read, but I will get around to it eventually. Just out of curiosity, why do you recommend it?

Well, you can read my review.  =รพ

No, but Lewis was an Atheist who turned Christian, and it's got exactly that point of view in mind.  You are, in essence, his target audience.  Or you would be if you lived in England 50 years ago.

And, honestly, it clears up a lot of things about what people often believe and what Christianity is really about.

Though I will probably learn a thing or two, I doubt that it will actually make a difference in my opinions on religion.

Even if it doesn't, it should be educational.
