Books / Re: So, apparently Dumbledore is gay.

She then went on to say that the reason Dumbledore was so blind to Grundelwald's evil was because he was in love with him.

I thought, from reading the book, that he was blind to Grundelwald's evil because of his love for power.

That's how I read it, too, and how I prefer to keep my reading. I was just reporting the author's thought process behind it that I'd heard elsewhere. However, there is that added layer now. It makes me think of Brideshead Revisited--even if there was never a homosexual relationship, there were some tendencies and subtle layers there that just made you go, "odd... why?"

Actually, all the reports I read say that this came out not because a fan asked, but because she saw the movie script for book 6 and the script referred to an old love interest of Dumbledore's--a girl. And she said, well, no, that won't work, because he's gay. She then went on to say that the reason Dumbledore was so blind to Grundelwald's evil was because he was in love with him.

I personally don't think it was necessary, but it was, in fact, apparently something she'd intended as part of the backstory at least as long ago as writing book 7.

You guys DO realize that this should be a podcast, right? By the way, whatever happened to doing more podcasts?

I'm looking at my gallery right now, so it seems to be back up again. Let's hope it stays that way.

It was down last night when I tried uploading to the server for a post about 9:30 pm my time. I'm not sure about before that time. Today is a holiday? Oh, that's right, Columbus Day or something, right? We don't get those days off during the year because they're given us  for the week between Christmas and New Year's.

You're not on IM and I need to know: what's up with my gallery? Has the server moved to Israel yet AGAIN? I'm thinking I should just get a flickr account or something. (Not that I'm not grateful for the hosting. Just worried.)

Yeah, when we saw the previews for Moonlight, the first thought was, "That's already been done, and done better. The show's name was Angel." But I can see the similarities with Dresden Files, too--also a show done better.

Yeah, every signing I've seen at UBooks sets up chairs and a microphone for a reading and Q&A. I actually really like how well they take care of authors there.

And it makes me wonder, given the Eight and given Kensei, if this has been happening far longer than anyone knew--but that for some reason it manifested for everyone of this generation at a particular time for a reason none of us know.

They're not bad, if you tailor their hair to match their outfits. So a green-skinned orc with white hair might have some nice ensembles in the green/brown hues. :)

So I'd be pretty safe choosing Fantastic Four or Willy Wonka and feel like I wouldn't send half the FHE group home halfway through? :) I've found that the better Rifftrax go with movies that have a lot happening, even if it's a lot of stupid stuff (I'm saving Daredevil to watch with a friend, which is why it's not on the table), so I would think Willy Wonka would be perfect. What do you guys think?

Movies and TV / Question for the Rifftrax-savvy
« on: September 27, 2007, 07:34:50 AM »
I've only done a couple Rifftrax, and it's been a few months. Is there any kind of language that would make it possibly inappropriate to do a Rifftrax for an FHE activity? And if you think language-wise they're okay, can you recommend a really funny one for a relatively short movie? I'm thinking that if I get one for a PG-rated movie, the accompanying language would be mostly okay, right? I'm just kind of worried about the occasional cracks they might make. Fine for general mixed company, but when it's an official church activity... you know. I'm thinking perhaps Eragon or Star Wars Ep. 1. Or even Heroes ep. 1 and 2, which wouldn't be more than an hour and a half, right? I'm trying to find a movie that would be no longer than 1 1/2 hours.

Options, movies that a more general FHE audience would enjoy (without looking at length--I'll have to look them up):

Eragon
Star Wars Ep. 1
Heroes ep. 1&2
Fantastic Four
Ooo! Grey's Anatomy!
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory 1971 version
Plan 9 from Outer Space

Anyone used the Rifftrax from any of these?

Yeah, I felt that particular comment applied really nicely to a couple girls I know... :)

I'm quite an avid reader. So avid, in fact, that I can't keep different books straight half the time because I'm reading so much. So I don't think the avid/casual breakdown really works in this situation.

Chupacabras are a Big Foot or Lock Ness type creature since a lot of people think they exsist but there's not real evidence they do.  Basically they're small dog (or alien creatures depending on who you ask) that suck blood out of cattle, the stories are based out of central America.

I've seen stories where they're a goat, too.
