Correction: "Pretty Town" should be "New Pretty Town" (there's a section of the city for middle and old Pretties, too).

I LOVED this trilogy. Highly, highly recommend it. There are some who say (self-servingly, in my opinion) that there's no good science fiction in YA. This trilogy proves that wrong. See my review on my LJ... somewhere. You'll have to look it up. I think it's under the "books" tag. Here: http://slwhitman.livejournal.com/tag/book+recommendations. It's not really a review so much as a rave.

Plus, I had my most memorable fun dream while reading this trilogy. I often have flying dreams, but I was hoverboarding in this one.

As far as his writing style, I really don’t have any complaints about these books.

Hey, I'll pitch in a comment here.

My only complaint with Uglies writing style, is that the setting descriptions are quite sparse, and because the pace is so fast, I had a hard time really getting a feel for the layout of the land beyond the basics. Also, everything happens so fast that the transitions between events were occasionally abrupt.

But as far as the sci-fi aspect, I'll say I agree with the review for the most part. It isn't perfect, but it's YA and it's pretty interesting, particularly the moral dilemmas associated with the society and the science. I would recommend it over Twilight because it's not so overtly sexual, and the themes are more likely to make readers think.
