Yay! Cheer for me, for today is an auspicious day. I have FINISHED a first draft of a Black Bull of Norroway novelette. The short story wasn't cutting down short enough, so I just went with it. It's 54 manuscript pages long. 12,319 words. Wow. That's about 1/3 to 1/4 of the target length of a YA novel. (If I remember right, most are about 40-50,000 words. Could be wrong, as my brain is currently mush.)
Even more momentous, this is the first time since my creative writing class my last year at BYU that I've finished a story, and the first time I ever wrote a battle scene. I do really well at beginnings, but endings are hard.
Fuzzy, EUOL, HoM, etc. (anyone who I haven't already emailed it to, that is)--if you'd like to read it and give good (but gentle) feedback by tomorrow night, let me know. It's due Wed. and I need to fix lots of things, I know, but any issue but the most glaring that goes very deep into the structure of the story without specific prescriptive suggestions will probably be tossed into the "fix later" barrel.
