Rob, you did awesome! You're a very good presenter. You should definitely do more of those things. And it's interesting to see the marketing aspect of humor, the whole 'suspense' thing and all.

And it was cool to see Eric there too! Where did you go? It was mass chaos, so I guess we pretty much got lost in it. What fun though!

That is really cool! I want to read it! When does it come out?

Stephanie Fowers / Chic Lit and Rob Wells conference
« on: March 16, 2006, 05:06:58 PM »
So, I know this was mentioned in Rob Well's post, but I just wanted to make sure we got the word out.

LDStorymakers is doing a writer's conference, and here are the details.

http://www.ldstorymakers.com/conference.html

Rob is doing 'Laugh your head off: Humor in books.'

Jules and I (Jules is like Precious Jewels here or something), we're doing 'A guide to chic lit: the newest rage in LDS fiction).

James Dashner (he's like Jamestown here), is doing tons of stuff, master of ceremonies, Hooks and Cliffhangers, Follow Your Wierdness, and he's team teaching with me: 'Let's Pretend: writing Fantasy,' where I will emphasize 'let's pretend,' and he  emphasizes 'writing fantasy.'

Also, our own controversial Jeff Savage (savage beast, I think) will be doing 'All that and a bag of chips, Marketing and self promotion,' and 'The book recipe.'

And there's tons more of us, so do come if you're interested.

And for those concerned (Fellfrosch), I will be turning my cell phone off!--but if I happen to make a call, the exit signs are marked.

Hey, and I'll be team teaching with Julie Wright. She wrote 'My Not So Fairy Tale Life.' We'll teach a class called, 'A guide to Chick Lit; the newest rage in LDS fiction.'

And I'll also be team teaching with James Dashner 'Let's Pretend: Writing Fantasy.'  Of course, not that I've published fantasy BUT perhaps I'll emphasize the, 'Let's pretend' part, huh? Ha ha!

Okay, so tell me what's going on? I was talking to my friend on my cell phone, and I was reaching into my cupboard to grab a can of soup, and then I rested it on the microwave and the microwave turned on!!! Wha?!!!

She told me to do it again, and I wouldn't for the longest time because if I died she would totally blame herself since she suggested it and then I talked about how it would be the perfect ending, blah, blah...and so then she rushed over and tried it while talking to me on the cell, and nothing happened. So, then emboldened, I tried the exact same set-up and nothing, hmmm? Then I looked like I was crazy.

And it's kinda funny, but I know when my cell is going to go off if it's on my desk, because then my alarm clock will go off a little bit (it's one of those radio things), and it sets the radio off a little.

Is this major radiation or what? I'm gonna die in about sixty years, I just know it!

We have these huge baby boxes at home and there's ten of us...and we each have more than one baby box with ALL of our memorabilia. We keep them in rubbermaid containers now because our basement always floods for one reason or another.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is...I come by it honestly.

I agree. Is that really your mom? That's so cool...if she's really your mom...that is...

Okay, now I've run out of Starving Artist Guide ideas. Ha ha!

I'm looking through my house...hmm, never throw away ANYTHING! Some people say this is obsessive compulsive, but in my experience everything will have a purpose some day...even those leftover five month old mashed potatoes from Thanksgiving. Oh yeah! Um, I'm not saying eat it though! There's a special purpose for the stuff, even if it's just to scare your friends with it.

Stay tuned...for more brilliant strategies...

Oh, I'm so glad that you reminded us all, Nessa. I'm gonna have to think of some good questions to ask now. Thanks again!

Man, you HAD to make me look up yet another word!

Okay, here's another one (I'm writing this in between cleaning for our cleaning checks...oh dash everything, I left that cleaner on WAY too long).

Anyway, here it is (and I'm not denying that this will be controversial): Marry well.

Ha ha, I'm not married, so I can't swear by it, but all my married friends tell me to marry a geek (I know some of you have heard me say it). Apparently my friends married geeks, and they never have to touch the computer ever. Their kids are smarter, and blah, blah, blah.

However, I'll probably have to marry a lawyer. Let's face it, I'm a little accident/ trouble prone, and the way things go for me, I'll be needing to save on the legal bills.
