Title: Umm Fell
Post by: Spriggan on October 10, 2002, 06:37:59 PM
Hey did you know that Kid has posted 2 RPG articles that you've never liked to.  He puts a new article up every wendsday.  last weeks was the oriental weapons and castles books. this weeks is Forge: Out of Chaos.

Well what do you know! RPG articles! I was under the impresion that our new site would notify me whenever someone posted an article in need of approval, but I had no idea these were here. Looks like I'll have to have a little talk with Tage.

I think he e-mailed you last week about the Oriental book.  But  Tage does need to include an auto notify Fell function.

Sorry if I didn't give any notice that I was turning in articles.  I guess I thought it would auto-notify or something too.  Anyway, I'm just going to keep putting RPG articles on the RPG page on Tuesday nights so that a link can be put on the front page for Wednesday (if that is still RPG day).  As for movie reviews, I'm not sure what to do with them - can I post them to the movies page subject to approval?  I was unsure as to whether I can do that or if I should just email them to someone to post.

It's supposed to auto-notify. I'll try to figure out what broke.

Ugh, I can be such an idiot sometimes...

The admins will now be notified of newly-posted articles when they log in to the administrative section.

Did you find my 3 reviews I submitted?  I did them several days ago but never saw them in the articles waiting to be approved seciton.

What were the titles and for which departments? The notifier still says there are no new articles and nothing to approve, so either Dan did them or something still isn't working.

The one's Sprig is talking about (I think) are three that Tage and I looked at--they were just titles with no text. It looked like you'd posted them adn then deleted them, because the only remnant of their existence was the link in the auto-notify section.

nope there were 2 anime and 1 rpg, I just retried to submit them and nothing came up, I think the submit articles function is broken.

No, the submit thing is working great for me. I think you're either doing it wrong, aren't properly logged in, or have some weird settings on your computer that won't let you use the forms.

*sigh*

I don't know. I haven't heard of submissions not working for anyone else, but I'm not sure if anyone else has tried.

And I'm moving this to the suggestion area.

I've tried it both logged in and not logged in and neither way worked.  I'll just e-mail them to you then mess around with it more.

That sounds like a fine plan.

Hey can you give us a refresher on what goes up what day?  I'm going to have a kindom hearts review an need to know what day is mine.

Ok I went ahead and added a desplay all articles to the Other page.  There are a few things there that might belong in other deparments so you might want to look through them.

Ok I just did something I should have done last week.  I added a view all articles to all the pages that don't have the sort function yet.  That way people can read back articles until we finalise key words.

So what's up with the weird first paragraph/second paragraph text change I'm getting on the main site? Intentional?
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Fellfrosch on December 04, 2002, 01:40:05 PM
It always does that, and I don't know why. The whispering windlike whims of Tage, I assume.

I'm not even sure what you're talking about. Where is this thing, exactly?
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Prometheus on December 04, 2002, 01:42:28 PM
On the main page, anywhere an article or news item has two paragraphs I think. The first paragraph is in slightly different text than the others.

Ah, it's because Dan's using a paragraph tag for the second paragraph, and not for the first. The stylesheets have rules set for the p tag. I suppose I could fix that by making the default body text whatever the p font is. Remind me to do that sometime...

Hey, Tage. Do that sometime.

The text on my Landgrabbing Magic article was really bad this time. After the first few paragraphs, it was all bold. Just a reminder for when you can get around to fixing that problem, Tage.

How should I go about uploading a .jpg for my icon? I'm tired of not having one. Should I just email it to Fell or Tage?
Title: Re: Umm Fell

sure
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Tage on January 06, 2003, 01:24:41 PM
I already did fix that problem, weeks ago.

And you don't have to upload a pic here to use it, you just have to upload it somewhere and link to it.

Something is funky with our TWG header thing. If my screen is too wide there's whitespace to the right of it.

Um, Nate, it's ALWAYS been that way.

Umm Fell I'm pretty sure the RPG review Micah sent you named Origin of Species is called savage species

Post by: Fellfrosch on March 19, 2003, 05:54:22 PM
Yes, but he wanted the title of the review to be Origin of Species. I worried that it would cause confusion, and maybe it has. Should I go re-title it?
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Spriggan on March 19, 2003, 06:00:13 PM
I would, cause the review titles have allwayse been the product name.  you can add Origin of species to the subtext that's what it's for.  It realy does cause confusion.  and besides Micah never comes to the sight so he'll never notice  ;)

also Fell Xro Dinn Chronicles by Kid is a RPG not a movie  ;)

I have two questions that I could just as easily ask if I got on IM and talked to Fell, but I choose not to for reasons that I don't wish to elaborate upon.

1) Why is the current poll so very popular?  I can't imagine that we have that many real hits - maybe I'm just being cynical.

2) The article on Rifts Bionics is almost half italicized.  The italics didn't seem to have any significance so I can only assume that's a mistake?  (That wasn't actually a question, but I put a question mark on the end anyway.)

I like italics as an artistic choice--they show a lot of charisma. However, for those with a more poorly-defined literary palate, I have taken them out.

As for the other question you had, I've forgotten what it was and don't wish to look it up. I will, however, end this sentence with an exclamation point as a sign that, had I actually answered the question, I would have done so emphatically!

the poll is broken, you can vote multiple times - it keeps re-setting

Nope, poll is functioning normally. It's more likely that your Internet provider is resetting your IP address every time you log on, and that you're cookies don't work properly.

Two things, in the Wolfen Empire article I submited I refrenced Rifts Aftermath twice instead of Seige of Tolkin because that article has appeared to have vanished from this site.  I checked all the deparments and didn't notice it.

and Tage I don't think our search function works 100%, it finds words in the body of a review but not in the title.
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Tage on April 15, 2003, 12:44:41 PM
I don't think I have it searching the title, to tell the truth. I figured that the body contents would contain at least as many keywords as the title. Am I wrong?
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Spriggan on April 15, 2003, 12:51:12 PM
no only in a few cases, for example when I was looking for the seige of tolkin book nothing came up.  There is one other review with seige in the name and that's dungeon seige.  and that didn't come up either.

Check the blurb for the new aricle today...it's got a code error.

N/M I fixed it
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Spriggan on April 29, 2003, 07:23:05 PM
ok I justed noticed why the d&d articles you post never come up in the correct sort.

you put D&D in the meta tag

it should be DnD how the sort works is there are 3 varables and they are seperated by the "&" symbol.   So I made it DnD sence D&D would crash it.
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Tage on April 30, 2003, 12:26:32 PM
Ha, I forgot about that. The & symbol is part of URL encoding, so yeah, it doesn't work with forms very well.

So...out of curiousity...what had the database in a tissy over article submission for the last little while?
Title: Re: Umm Fell
Post by: Fellfrosch on July 29, 2003, 02:33:42 PM
Tage explained it in the News section, but I'll repeat it here. Names have been changed to protect the guilty.

Someone named Jim accidentally did an incomplete reinstall of PHP on our server, which reset something which shouldn't have been reset and caused the database to reject all articles and blurbs that included apostrophes. Jim subsequently found this and fixed it, so it all works now.

Unfortunately not. I'm really sorry about your article, Jeffe. It was really good, and it will be a pain to rewrite it.
