More on the constant war over how to raise my kids (I say, "As Geeks!" using the most noble sense of the word, of course).
Sarah (age 3) got new shoes today. Care Bears and flashing lights.
However, when I commented with resignation that she probably liked them, my wife said "No, she kept wanting the Spider-Man shoes." Apparently black sneakers aren't good enough for her. I want to know why the heck my 3-year old daughter can't wear Spider-Man shoes.
THEN I find out that the actual FIRST choice were high-top Hulk shoes. My daughter is soooo cool. Yet my wife is stifling her.
What really irks me is that this is AFTER buying Strawberry Shortcake shoes for my eldest child. Ok, she's a girl, but I don't like American Greetings for what they did to PA, so I'd like to avoid buying their products. Especially when it comes out of my wallet. But my daughter wanted them, and they fit, so I'll put her happiness above any miniscule effect I'd have on AG's position on censorship. BUt still.
Doesn't that mean that my OTHER daughter should get the shoes she wants? Not some preconceived notion of gender-appropriate characters?
So I've placed myself in charge of shoe purchasing next time.
