Brandon Sanderson / Re: Mistborn Out!

Wow.  Sounds like a good friend.  So did you ever leave my cameo in, earning the grisly death by being tossed to flesh eating monsters, or did you change that name so that you can think up an even more horrific fate??

And Stacer - my brief time at TLE was well after our freshman year, I'd guess closer to the 2000 time frame, if I had to take a stab at it.  Brandon was already well ensconced by the point I showed up there, and we weren't roommates anymore.

Yes, I have now.  You're welcome.  The short answer, I guess, is yes, I am a former TLEer (barely) and a random friend of Brandon who knows just a few other folks (more of them after Brandon's wedding, tho).  I only went to TLE a time or two under Brandon's encouragement, but never did more than read some from the slush pile.  Yee-haw!  Catch my intro to read the rest, I suppose.

Site News / Re: Introduce yourself - right on!
« on: July 27, 2006, 03:28:08 PM »
After Stacer's chastisement, I am (finally) submitting myself for introduction.  As Spriggan pointed out to me at Brandon's wedding, I was among the first to actually register at the site (in the top 10, I believe!), then proceeded to post absolutely nothing for some number of years.  Imagine that.  I entered a posting renaissance after Brandon's wedding, however, so here I am.

My name is Tom Conrad.  I was Brandon's freshman year and back from mission roommate, or, as I've heard him put it, his oldest friend (break out the cane!).  As his freshman year Magic acolyte and sometime dabbler in many things geeky, I've kept a pulse on the site here.

I did graduate from the Y a few years back with my degree in chemical engineering and have been working for Intel ever since.  I am currently residing outside Portland, OR, although I generally claim that I'm from New Mexico.  I have a house there.  Don't ask; it's simpler that way.  I am married and we are expecting our first in a few months.  Yay!!

Oh, and I play competitive Scrabble and like to hike a lot.

I think that could work well, but might be a little unwieldy.  Then again, it should be just unwieldy enough to lose the schlub posts.  I, also, don't get any unwelcome comments, but that's to be expected since my readership is like...zero.

I also really like the idea of a wiki, but doesn't that leave you with a whole *other* world of potential trouble to patrol?

Coolness.  I hope my three copies helped.  And yes, there must be three.  One for me, one for the wife, and one for emergencies.

Hmph.  Unless I get my Amazon order in today's mail (not highly likely...it just got to Federal Way, WA yesterday), then I don't think I'll have it to read on my flights over the next two days.  Blech.  Then again, if I start reading it on the flight tomorrow, I'll probably end up staying up WAY too late tomorrow night, and I have to be in to work down there on Saturday morning.  Bad combination.  Anyway, guess I'll just be stuck reading some dry non-fiction instead.  **accepting my lot in life**

Amazon emailed that they already shipped mine, which is nice.  My delivery estimate is the 27th-29th, though.   I hope it comes at the early end so that I have something to read on my flight this weekend!

Hmm.  Guess I'll just have to try harder.  Ah well...at least my books are on the way!

Oh, and to whom it may concern, I *did* go ahead just now and change my (unaffiliated) pre-order to one that I placed through the TWG link.  Umm...you're welcome?

Heh.  That is funny.  I wonder how those pairings are made up?  I would be certain that it's all about the dollars and cents somehow.

I must say that I hope one and all have a ball tomorrow at the release party/signing/fest type thing.  It's a bit of trip from Oregon or I might just be tempted to pop in myself.  I guess I'll have to take my second best option:  a trip down to Ashland to enjoy the Oregon Shakespeare Festival all weekend.  I guess I can live with that.  Brandon, make sure and stop in Portland on your Northwest trip this fall!!!

Very cool, Brandon.  It is comforting to know you actually did something other than read the entire honeymoon (as evidenced by the third picture, at least!).

hm.  I guess I could go cancel my Amazon pre-order and re-place it through the TWG Amazon link.  Nahhh...sounds like too much work.

I suppose I wrote that much volume during the time he was gone, but it's too bad that lame work emails back and forth to my colleagues don't quite count as "real writing".  Well, maybe the blog counts for something...

I think I need something like that at work.  I sit in one of those funky double cubes, and my computer is right at the end by the aisle.  I sometimes feel like I'm in the aisle.  Maybe a kitschy doorbell/impending intruder system would encourage people to give me a slightly wider berth as they walk by...
