Title: Happy Pioneer Day
Post by: 42 on July 24, 2003, 01:53:11 PM
I just love a State Holiday that gets me off of work while the rest of the country is slaving away.

What are you talking about the rest of the country? I have to be at work for 24 hours, and I'm in American Fork.

Yes but my place of my employment is technically closed as is the rest of campus, so it counts as a holiday.

Besides, if you live in Utah, you should at least passively recognize Pioneer Day. Just to be courteous if anything.

My coworkers who had lived in Utah and I were making fun of pioneer day just a few days ago. Does that count?

I sort of find find that to be rude now-a-days. When I first moved to Utah, I thought Pioneer Day was stupid, but now I think Utah has the right to be different from the rest of the country with little cultural quirks and having it's own holidays. I don't really like the idea of the US being one monstrous mega-culture.

Is it still rude if there's no one there to be offended by it? I guess it would still be dodgy if you applied that to racist jokes, but I don't think of it as that extreme.

In fact, I find it more rude to explain how you get the day off while I have to talk to moron retards and build up my bitterness and hatred.  :P

So is Utah the only state that has a state holiday? IT seems like that would be more common.

Besides--if we get a day off while you have to work, why are you making fun of us? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Don't bother me with details! I'm busy mocking!
