Well of Ascension. The Final Hero reminds me of Schwartzenegger.

oh yeah, there's those Shonen Knife files...

anyway, when I say Irish, I'm talking about real Irish folk, like the Clancy Brothers, or Irish rock, like the Levellers or Great Big Sea. Not this namby pamby new age sstuff.

What? I didn't mention the Chieftains or Cherish the Ladies or Altan and suddenly I'm namby-pamby? By the bye, Mary Black is not only real Irish folk, in the fine folk singer tradition, she was banned from the airwaves during the big IRA problems in the early 90s because her lyrics were too . . .  incisive. Or do you consider U2 to be Irish rock/folk?

I'll join SE's Irish club. Mostly Clannad, Maire (Moya) Brennan, Mary Black, Nightnoise, et al.

I have one from South America called Viento de los Andes. Good stuff.

Okay, I also have some Japanese. Hiroshima, Kitaro, and Keiko Matsui.

How will this job help you in your career plans?

Well, this job is merely a cover while I earn enough money to buy a universal transmitter that will enable me to try to take over the world.

(Gee, Brain. Me and Pippi Longstocking? What will the kids look like?)

My model for this column is going to be Stephen King's column in Entertainment Weekly.  It's somewhat rantish, and he tends to ramble, but it's of general interest because he's Stephen King.

Oh please no, EUOL. Stephen King uses his "Pop of King" column to talk about what books he's recently read and liked, or what shows he's upset over being cancelled, or what music he happens to have in his CD player. Stephen King or not, I get a little tired of his incessant plugging. It just strikes me that he's amused about the fact that all he has to do is write a little blurb on whatever comes to mind, edit it ever so roughly, and turn it over to EW for pay. He doesn't seem to put a whole lot of thought into it -- the kind of thought most people expect from a regular column. My mother-in-law writes a better column (without the celebrity appeal). I doubt you're going to fall into that particular trap, though. It's taken many years and a near-death experience to make SK shift his priorities to the point where he no longer seems to care about his craft. (Let the tomatoes fly).

Writing about your experiences will definately be of interest here, and it's also a chance for you to organize your thoughts and chronicle them. You have an avid audience who want to know about what it's like to publish and how you did it. What's Tom Dougherty like? What is your relationship with Moshe like? When it comes to "what it's like to publish," I'm all about the details.
