May even be bigger than "The stupidest thing you've ever done" thread.
My 2 year old LOVES the Star Wars RPG book. At least, she did. She can name R2, 3PO, Chewbacca, Luke, Han, and Leia, even Greedo. She has proclaimed that Ewoks look like chipmunks, and that Boba Fett is a "bad man."
Very cute, right? And it's a ritual thing, she comes to the office and picks it off the shelf first thing in the morning. She calls it "the gray book" because the spine is gray. (this is the first edition of swd20, which I don't use so I'm happy to let her look through it and maybe fold a page on accident).
So mom's out this morning, and can't object that anything scary is on. I figure I'll have to skip things like shoot outs and Vader choking a man to death, but they'll at least get to see all these characters talking and moving, right?
wrong. We watched about half an hour (just after the Tusken Raider attack, which yes, I fast forwarded through). Elizabeth (the 4 yo) was getting into it, though she kept telling her doll "It's all right Ariel." But Sarah spent the whole time with a blanket over her head. She'd ask me to FF during the weirdest times. Finally I stopped the video and sarah proclaimed "Papa, I don't like Star Wars."
And my heart broke.

??? not like starwars?!! What have you bred little communists!!
At least I know it'll all be ok in a couple of years....
-of course you could just tell her to suck it up and like it ;D
-
That story will probaly make your wife happy SE, and further her resolve to keep your kids from enjoying the finer things in life. Like Ewoks stealing speeder bikes.
-
What about those goofy old ewok movies? They seem more for kids than anything else. You could use those as a kind of springboard into the real movies (or in this case a bridge over the gulf that's formed.)
-
The real problem is his wife wont let him desensetise his kids to violence. I say strap em down to the couch and show em tons of monster movies....
That'll do the trick, Im postive she'll like Star Wars after that!
-
oh yeah, that'll work...
Actually Kije has a good idea. ANyone know where I can get those stupid Ewok cartoons on video or DVD?
-
Well, I found two on Amazon, plus a Droids one (as well as The Battle for Endor and the Ewok Adventure). Now I just have to justify buying them. *checks wallet*
Sigh
-
The Cartoons will be ok but remember the Ewok movies had big scary monsters.
-
Blockbuster use to have them.
-
Speaking of cartoons, I have to say that the new Cartoon Network series Clone Wars looks pretty cool. I'm interested to see what happens when the minds behind Samurai Jack and the Powerpuff Girls get to take a crack at Star Wars.
(Answer: they'll probably do a better job than Lucas.)
-
If the girls like listening to stories they might like some of the JA SW books about Leia & Han's kids. The nice things about books is that they are often only as violent and scary as the kids' imagination.
Or at least that's how I remember it. I've reread books that I read in elementary school, and I think, "When did they put that in? That's gross!"
And Fell, yeah, probably.
-
I'm wondering if they got any of the movie voice actors to do the cartoon.
-
The action figures from Clone Wars are way cool. Actually, I've only seen three. But they rock. Even Anakin. I have Yoda, and he's bad@$$
-
You really should have just started off showing the ewoks section from the third movie. There are plenty of those that aren't scary.
Of course, you'll probably want to stay away form the scenes where the ewoks get blasted by walkers and such...
-
No! Ewok blasting is good! Blast more Ewoks! Death to the Ewoks!
Seriously, Ewoks are second only to Pikachus in the "So cute it has to die" stakes.
-
I have always regarded Ewoks as proof that lucas was running out of ideas by Episode 6.
-
I never found ewoks so stupid as they're made out to be: though I resent people who play them in RPGs. i also question their ability to defeat an imperial army, though I think that says more about the stromtroopers than the ewoks. Which in turn says a lot about the rebels who couldn't beat them.
