When you go to a signing, get your picture taken with Brandon and post it here!
I'm going to the Torrance signing on Oct. 23 and will post here afterward.
-
Oh believe you me, my 2 GB SD card and I are going to have a blast at the release party.
-
Are you going to wear your "Incalculable" T-shirt? ;D (Or has Brandon bestowed a new adjective upon you?)
-
Hopefully in my picture the book will say
'Brandon Sanderson
1,
[/i][/color]
-
There's a new adjective. Thus I must get a new shirt.

Total time in line: 2 hours 40 minutes (and there was still a good 30 minutes of people after me)
-
Ooh! First pic of the signing. Nessa, I bet you're two-thirds of the way done with the book by now, aren't ya? ;)
-
Wow. Judging by this and the description on misbornempire, the signing must have been quite the production. Has anyone been to any of the other release parties in order to compare their size? Did the bookstore have enough books? >_>
-
Last I heard they had one copy of the 300 they had originally ordered left. (I don't know if the 300 includes pre-orders or not, but I would assume not.) I don't know though if someone purchased it, but I doubt it since I believe the registars were closed at that time.
-
There were quite a lot of people, so many in fact I didn't think brandon had time to sign everything (don't know if the bookstore decided to stay open late since they were supposed to closed just after Nessa got her book signed).
We'll have a Writing Excuses Episode that was recorded at the signing up tomorrow I hope.
-
Brandon looks tired but pleased!
-
First of all, in response to Dan, my name has been changed from "Not Bookstore Guy Anymore" to "Used to be Important".
Release Party Comparison:
This one was WAY more busy than MB2, and much larger than MB1 (though the gap wasnt as large). However, the thing that made this line longer than it seemed was the fact that people were bringing multiple copies of every book for Brandon to sign. The MB1 signing only had 2 books for him to potentially sign, where yesterday's had 6 plus paperback incarnations of several of them (4). So in reality, the line was even longer than the several hundred people that were in it.
I must have had the look of "Someone Who Used to be Important (that's for you Dan)", because random people kept asking for recommendations and directions. An employee asked if I knew how things were going and where his boss was. It was odd.
Overall, i thought the signing went well. I think the store could have done a few things differently to speed up the process, and a few more things to sell more books, but it went well.
Brandon: I expect a bookscan report.
-
They did run out of books. I know because I got there five minutes after the last one was sold.
It was sad.
-
i wish the book signing was coming somewhere near my local area :(
Oh well, it happens! :P
I'll certainly look forward to see more pics of them, though!
(i know you can get signed copies online and all that, but it's not the same as a book signing, at all)
-
Nessa, that is a great picture :)
I have been to only one author's signing, well a joint signing for two authors, and I think everyone there had multiples of both authors' early works and their new works, so that seems to be a common practice. I am very glad that Brandon is enjoying the rewards of having such wonderful books, and fans of said books :) Congratulations Brandon :D

It's a little fuzzy, but there we are. :)

Here we are, in the book signing at Sam Weller's bookstore.
-
How was that signing?
-
I enjoyed it, but it was much, much smaller than the Provo one. (There were only like a dozen or two people.) It was kind of amusing, the difference in sizes, as I was one of two people who got their books signed at Sam Weller's and I was number 528 to get a numbered book.
I arrived during Brandon's reading, stayed for some Q&A, and then we went up for the signing. I really liked the closer atmosphere at this one, it gave us all a chance to speak our minds.
-
Is that number before or after Brandon signed all the preorders through Sam Weller's?
-
It's great to see pictures of you guys :) I hope we get to see many more, and I find the difference in signing sizes to be encouraging for me. I have a bit of a problem with huge crowds, but I will deal with it for this, if I have to. Totally worth it, in my opinion. :D
-
Man, I feel like I am on the other side of the world. Oh well, I'll just have to get a whole bunch of people to start reading Brandon's books so that Tor will schedule a signing in New England for his next series.

From the Provo-BYU Bookstore signing. (I'm about 6:20 into it :) )
I was a little flustered and blathered. Hehe.
-
Does anyone have any pics of me that they'd be willing to send me? I'm wanting to show my grandma my costume (she's a big fan of the series), but because my phone/camera was really close to dead I couldn't get any of my own. I know that one of EUOL's friends took some pics, but I don't know who to talk to in order to get them. So if anyone could pm me saying they have one, I'd really appricate it. (Or even just post it here, and I can save it to my comp from there.)
-
Your grandma is a Mistborn fan?? That's just too awesome...
-
(http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh198/Felastizairu/heroofages_signing.jpg)
I had some interesting and enlightening discussions about Mistborn and reading in general with both Qarlin and Nessa as we waited in line for almost 3 hours. I had no idea this signing would be so popular! But it was totally worth it, and I'm glad there are people out there who are just as nerdy as me when it comes to Mistborn. Also, note my awesome shirt, if you can read it.
-
That shirt is so sweet. Can you get them from his web-site?
-
I would so get that t-shirt, especially if it said "The Hero of Ages: Book Three of Mistborn" on the back. That's awesome.
And that image was at the release party, yes?
-
That IS a really cool t-shirt! It looks like you made it yourself.
I think a super amazing shirt would be one that had the table of Allomantic metals on the back...
-
@ GreenMonsta -- No, you can't get them from his website. I made it using my meager Photoshop skills. It's just an iron-on. I'll have to take a picture and show the back too, because it says "Mistborn" on the back just like it appears on the cover of book 1.
@ Chaos -- Yeah, that's from the release party. That's the advantage of going to college where Brandon went to college--he's around all the time. :)
@ Pygmalion -- Yeah, I did. It was fun. And an Allomantic table shirt would be wicked-cool.
The other idea I had for the shirt was to put, "Do you always read at balls?" on the front, then on the back have a picture of me in a prom dress w/ the Mistborn books and "Whenever I can get away with it." That will forever be one of my favorites quotes from the series.
-
I like the shirt. Now you just have to make one with "Wasing not of wasing is." for SarahG.
-
Yeah and how about "He ate my horse" for myself. You could have a crude sword with a leather pouch tied to the hilt laying under it. Im not going to lie that would be sweet.
-
We should all get together and start a zazzle (http://www.zazzle.com/) group, because I freaking love all these shirt ideas.
-
We should. And we can't forget the "There's always another secret" t-shirt!
EDIT: Wait, so if we do this, we can actually get paid for this?
-
Guess I should post mine.
Brandon also mentioned that I should acknowledge that he did hand out cards for Mistborn jewelry and figurines.
-
"Figurines"? Hmmm... sounds very interesting. I'd love to know more.
-
The card says www.GardenNinja.com.
Although it says available 12/08
-
Oh, sweetness. I will always look for new and exciting ways to geek out to Mistborn stuff.
-
EDIT: Wait, so if we do this, we can actually get paid for this?
Wait, what? There's a pay? I just thought that was a site where you could upload your design, pay money and get it, then it went out on their system so other people can buy it as well. I'm going to have to look over everything now to see if you can get paid.
*five minutes later*
Holy cow, it looks like you do. That's totally cool! I say we start a group with each person creating their idea and uploading it so they're the one that gets the profits from it, but they're all linked together. (If you even can. I think I've seen that done before.)
-
Making money should be fun... :P
-
I am not opposed to this line of thinking. How do we set it up like that?
-
I'm not exactly sure how we would go about setting up a group. I'm going to check everything out tonight and see if there's some way to get this worked out. If there isn't a way to set it up so everyone can get the direct profits from their designs I would love to at least see some way to make sure the creators get part of it (if that is we even get paid for these designs. But from what I can tell, we should.)
The question also becomes, should we be sending a portion of the money to EUOL as a "thank you for the series, here's our payment of royalties", and does he mind that we want to. I personally think that if we do set something up and make a profit off of it, we should give a portion to him since it is his series.
-
Not to be a party pooper here but... isn't making T-shirts with quotes and art from Mistborn, and profiting from said T-shirts, kinda illegal?
-
Yes. If anyone does, it should be Brandon (and/or Jordan, to pay the website costs).
-
Perhaps there could be a way to set up the Zazzle and send the royalties to Brandon through the Paypal donation thing on his website. The way that Zazzle stuff works is that Zazzle gets the majority of the money, and then the creator gets a 10% royalty (it's possible to increase that royalty amount, but that increases the cost to the shirt). I don't really even care about money and would be happy to give the full amount of the royalties to Brandon--just one more way to support him, which I am all for!
If not that (because that seems rather complicated to get the royalties to Brandon), Brandon or Jordan should really think about making a Zazzle thing themselves, because it doesn't seem too difficult to do.
I know I'd want some of those shirts :D

Lol, i think we would have alot of fun with that...
-
But the top priority would be to get the royalties to Brandon, or however we do it. I don't want cheat him!
-
I compeleatly agree that if we don't do it, EUOL and Sprig should, because I really want at least the book one, if not tons of others. But I really don't think it would be hard to make sure that a portion goes to them, since like Chaos said you can increase the royalty amount.
-
Did anyone see the sign in the background of Vegas' photo? Sanderson and Farland, wow now im upset. I mean its not enouph that these signings are far far away from me but there are two authors that I enjoy at the same one. Im going to scream. Well maybe not but Vegas is a lucky guy to have been at that signing.
-
I don't think we'll make one, mostly because we can get better deals elsewhere so we can sell shirts for cheaper and make more off them (buy in bulk and no print on demand, it's what the webcomic guys do). Also Brandon hasn't shown much interest in doing t-shirts lately--that's not to say he wont but he wants to get something that looks good and is cool and not just throw something up to make a quick buck. We've got the cafeepress one on the site but that one was an experiment he made just to test thing out (I don't even think he wants it on the site anymore).
You're welcome to e-mail him about the site, because it is intresting, but I don't think he'll get back to you on this anytime soon because of the book tour.
However, I know he won't care if you make shirts as long as you're not making money off of them.
-
That's good advice.
EDIT: Maybe we could submit designs to EUOL's website, have a dialog with him about which one(s) would be best to make, and then get them straight from the website. Not that anything would happen before the book tour was over... I'll email it in. :)
-
Nessa,
You are one crazy woman for waiting in line. :)

Oldie, let me tell you, I had NO freaking idea it would be that long. I got there later than expected. I had my three kids with me. As much as I like to support Brandon, there is no way I am ever waiting in line like that again.
-
lol. Three kids in a line for over 2 hours. Now THAT is a true friend/fan. (And thanks for getting my books too! I can't thank ya enough).
By the way: I love your Halloweenish name. Rotfl. I forgot how we do that name-changing thing on holidays. Hmmm, what did I do last year?
-
Ookla, I eagerly await the picture of you at the Torrence signing with your new adjective :D

The signing was a lot of fun. Audience members asked a lot of good questions about writing—it was like over four podcasts of material (though a lot of it was stuff I'd heard before). I asked a couple leading questions: "You've given out some good advice and you mentioned a podcast; what's that about, and Dave, do you have anything similar?" (Dave does; his Daily Kick in the Pants. I'm having trouble finding a link to it though) and "What books do you both currently have scheduled to come out, and what are you working on next?"
Our new home teacher was there at the signing, and I hadn't known he was a big fantasy fan.
-
Wow Ook, you almost look like your icon. That's kind of funny.
-
I...don't see the resemblance.
-
No way. He'd have to have a full beard, give him fangs, blacken the whites in his eyes, major plastic surgery to change his nose, grow his hair out long, and then flip the color scheme of the photo to negative...
Yeah, I'm not seeing it at all.
-
I think it's more of the red hair. And just me being a brat.
-
Actually only my beard is red. And Ookla has way more hair than me.
-
Right, not in anyway ::) I like the new adjective :) Great pictures.

I say we all chip in some money for this. Great ideas. :P
P.S. How the heck is everyone changing their forum names?
