Okay, I've noticed and I'm sure others have as well that WoT has taken over the forum and we've been sort of ignoring the rest of the other books. I want to try something new and talk about the new Alcatraz book that is coming out in October of 2009. Talk about what you hope to come in the next book, what's your favorite character or part in the last 2 books. If you haven't read these books take a look and maybe try them out. Let's see how this goes. ;)
My Questions and Stuff:
I'm wondering what Nalhalla is going to look like and how the world (Free Kingdoms) will think of Attica's return. Also now that Shasta has the Lenses of Rashid I think she is going to loose them because in the 1st book she lost her keys and that turned the story into what it is. I'm wondering why the book is called Knight's of Crystallia ? Something has to happen with Crystallia and maybe we'll find out things that we didn't know before.

I'm afraid I haven't read them yet :( That needs to change.

*Big spoilers for Mistborn and Alcatraz below*
I hadn't heard about that title. Very interesting. Particularly since the title theme thus far has been "Alcatraz Versus..."
Does this mean the Knights are corrupt? Or controlled by the as-yet-unknown Fourth Sect Of Evil Librarians? (actually the undead ones are pretty ambivalent, as evil characters go. In some very weird ways they remind me of Kandra.)
Anyway, in the Hoid Topic I ended up drawing quite a few parallels between Alcatraz and the Mistborn trilogy, and I think I might have been on to something with all the similarities in the magic systems. Like Preservation and Ruin, the "metaphysics" of Alcatraz's world involve two entities: "Identity" and "Possibility". Judging by names, neither seems to be particularly good or evil in alignment*, but there may still be some sort of critical "thing" that our hero has to do with them.
Vin, the Allomancer who could reach all four planes of the magic system in Scadrial (okay, any Mistborn could do it, but she was good at it), faced a critical choice in the middle book in the series. She essentially made a decision that determined whether Preservation or Ruin would come out ahead, even if she didn't know what she was deciding.
Perhaps Alcatraz, whose Talent somehow spans all four quadrants of the "Wheel," will be facing a similar choice in a near-future installment. As a narrator, he even hinted in "Scrivener's Bones" that he would end up causing the problem before he solved it.
As for the mysteriously awesome lens Alcatraz found in the tomb, does this not remind you of when Vin and Kelsier were trying to figure out what malatium did? Ditto duralumin (sans Kelsier). It actually makes a lot of sense for this "ultimate lens" to function as a sort of amplifier for all other lenses, come to think of it.
I don't think we'll see any Sazed-like ascensions to Godhood, though. Not only has there been zero foreshadowing of such an event in this series (while Mistborn, in retrospect, had quite a bit), it just wouldn't make a whole lot of sense anyway.
*Although "Identity" is probably concerned with keeping things identifiable -- or mathematically equal to themselves, which would make it pretty close to Preservation, though perhaps with a more neutral or even Librarian personality. Similarly, "Possibility" speaks of the positive side of change the same way "Ruin" had a somewhat negative spin on it. Maybe the Alcatraz series is going to try going in the other direction -- letting Yune be the good guy while Ashera causes problems. Ike fights for his friends. Sorry.
-
I see where you can see the resemblance between the books because there was a topic about this somewhere else and I think Brandon Sanderson uses the same type of things for all of his books. Like the Incarnate Wheel and the Wheel of the Metals for Mistborn look allot alike.
Also both the main characters have some extra ability they really don't know how to control. Vin can't sorta control how she controlled the mist and that she thinks she is the HoA. Alcatraz is an oculator and his Smedry Talent he can't control also.
I agree with you about the kandra and the Curators. Oh and both main characters are taught by some sort of pro at their "craft". Grandpa Smedry taught Alcatraz and Kell taught Vin.
About the knights, they are (remember I'm guessing) probably going to get into an argument with the Smedry (aka Alcatraz) because of Bastille's knight being taken away and I'm sure there will be more to it.

Opps!! Forgot to add this part!!
That does remind me of that as well but I think the lenses will help control the Talent because in the tomb of Alcatraz the 1st all the writing really taked about the Talents. In the description it says something about how it was his best lenses and even though he passed it down to his son only if a Talent can break is it dangerous or something like that.

My all time favorite part.
"Bastille!" I screamed, holding her bloody body in my arms. "Why?"
She didn't respond. She just stared into the air, eyes glazed over, her spirit already gone. I shivered, pulling her close, but the body was growing cold.
{contine the next page and a half}
ha ha. I loved it.
What I expect to see in the third book do to the title:
We will find out what the third Crystal does as well as more details about what the Fleshstones do. I also believe that there will be a large fight when the Smedry's show up in Crystallia. I think the main problem will be that the Librarians are gaining power and the Crystallians will want to be with the party that is strongest within the war. Then Bastille and her mother will say no and that they are staying on the side of the Smedry's and that the Smedry's will have to find a way to get the Crystallians to stay on their side.
I am also for some reason seeing a Smedry gaining a Crystallian stone of some-sort. I don't know why, I just see it happening.
The Lense:
I think this Lense will be more connected to the Talents rather than just lenses in general. I believe it will have something to do with enhancing Talents. I don't have too much to go on other than a feeling though.
-
Your idea for the third book is really good. I'm wondering now, that we've meet Draulin are all Crystins bad tempered or are any of them happy people? When you said something about a Smedry becoming a Crystin (that would be SO cool), what would happen if that Smedry were an Oculator? Because you have to use Warriors Lenses when your a Crystin but is there a lens that does the same thing as warriors lens? ???
I still think that Shasta is going to loose the Lenses of Rashid because her Talent will act up. If you remember in teh first book when we see Shasta taking with Blackburn Shasta say:(Shasta) "I was planning to go along, but- (Balckburn) "But what?" (Shasta) "I lost my keys."
If Shasta never lost her keys then she would have been able to go pick up Alcatraz and ether Alcatraz would have never meet Grandpa Smedry or Grandpa Smedry and Shasta would have meet there at the house and that would be VERY interesting. So I'm guessing that Shasta's Talent works when, I don't know how to put this.....when the story could go as people thought it would. Then maybe in the fourth book Shasta teams up with Smedrys and they go looking for the lenses before teh other Librarians.
Also about the crystals in Crystallia and the flesh stones I THINK another one of the flesh stones power is they help keep the Crystins alive. Maybe it helps them heal faster because after Bastille got hurt from Killiman she was still able to get up and the frost on her hand wasn't bothering her. I don't know maybe she's just determined which also makes sense.
Bastille
-
Cristallians don't HAVE to use warrior lenses, they are just one of the lenses that non-occulators can use. SO to answer your question about a lens that does the same thing are the warrior lenses. (that was slightly confusing)
That's a good point about Shasta. She probably will lose the glasses and I can definitely see them teaming up eventually. I also seem to think that eventually Bastille is going to become an occulator. I KNOW Al told us she wouldn't, but he HAS lied to us before. >>
Good observation on the Fleshstone.
I am really excited to figure out what the other stone does though.

My First Crazy Theory: The breaking talent can "break" just about anything, even concepts, if given enough power. Way back in ancient times, it broke the written word. The Forgotten Tongue isn't actually forgotten, it was never actually known by anyone. If this wasn't enough to do the trick on its own, the talent then proceeded to break the Incarnan Empire, either directly or by breaking other things it depended on.
-
So when Alcatraz "broke" the Forgotten Language inscription, he was breaking it *again*?!?! Seems weird. Doesn't rule it out, of course, but the fact that the Forgotten Language is still readable (with
the Lord Ruler's Rashid's Lens) means it is still a language. When Alcatraz breaks text, though, he makes it totally indecipherable. Then again, he was only breaking an instance of text, not the language itself. Is it possible to "break" an aspect of something without breaking the whole thing? i.e. break everyone else's ability to read a language without breaking the language's function?
The reason I thought the mystery lens was something like an oculatory enhancer is because Alcatraz tried activating it and couldn't figure out what it did. He didn't try to "break" it, though, so you could be right about it enhancing Talents. If it could do something by itself, though, surely he would have seen something happen when he turned it on.
-
It reminds me of Duralumin and how Vin could sense nothing until she burned another metal with it.
Perhaps it only works when certain circumstances are met.
-
Good ideas one and all!! I love all the ideas of the lenses that so far doesn't really do anything. (sorta) I would love Bastille to become an Oculator and I've thought a great deal about that subject. I'm wondering if Alcatraz still has those blood forged lenses, and when he figures out he still has them what will he do with them? I would want him to give them to Bastille and then when she questions him he just says because I trust you and then later she uses them to help Alcatraz. Remember this is just my mind wheeling different ideas of the books.
As always I picture Shasta joining the Smedrys at one point and then watching everyone's reactions to that. Of course Alcatraz, Bastille and Draulin will all object to the decision but of course Attica, Grandpa Smedry and Kaz (if he is still there) will be alright with it.
-
Some lucky kid has the third book already. They gave away a manuscript at the HoA signing. I wanted so hard to win! But sadly, I didn't.
-
Expanding on my "break anything" theory, I was actually hoping during my read through of Scrivener's Bones that Alcatraz would use his talent to break the Curators' rules and take a book without paying for it. I was a little disappointed when that never happened.
-
I don't think he has nearly that much power yet, though maybe one day he will.
-
That is a good idea. I like the idea of breaking the rules. Even if Alcatraz got that powerful I don't think he would be able to (but if the lenses do what we think they do then it's different) control the Talent enough to do it without having another consequence happen. If that made any sense to anyone.

You know, adding "Alcatraz" to the thread title might help.

My thought on the mystrious lense is that it supresses Al's talent. Al the first said that breaking was the worst thing ever, yes? So then if he was able to create a lense that supressed the talent he might think he was saving other people from the horror. I mean, that also explains why only those with the breaking talent would want it.
Also, I can almost promise that Al's going to break Bastille so she gets a talent. In the first book there was like two things that he said would never happen -- the "super powerful lense getting blasted" which it does (he then follows up with "that's an accadent and will never happen again, which it does) and Bastille getting a talent. Every time he said that though it ended up happening, so Al's either going to marry Bastille or else he's going to break her. (I could see him breaking her having to do with the big huge problem thing.)
Also, miyabi -- "She was dead. Dead dead dead dead dead." *giggles* Good times, good times.
-
Book 3 definitely gives a lot more hints as to where the series is going. There's not a whole lot of the overarching plot in the first 2 books, besides the obvious "Librarians are trying to take over, and obviously A+B=♥" thing.
-
Am I wrong in thinking "A+B" refers to a certian boy and his female knight?
-

This part of teh family is meessed up. Attica married a Librarian and Alcatraz is in love with a knight/squire. The Smedrys really screwed it up.

I LOVE the idea with Alcatraz breaking Bastille!!!!!! LOVE IT!!! It's BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!! It sounds like something BS would do. I also want Bastille to become an Oculator though.
Bastille
(Bastille was dead. Really dead. Deader than a battery left on all night with the high beams on. She was so dead she deader than anyone I'd ever see dead. She was that dead.) ;D

Yup, good good times. It's sad that Brandon check his email until too late. :( That would have been freaking awesome!
Breaking Bastille would be intense.

I KNOW!!! We'll just have to save that idea for another release. *wink*
I swear I meantioned the breaking of Bastille at the release... and a whole bunch of things I'm too lazy to type here (mostly because I've forgotten them) as to why it's a valid reason. But I'm thinking that's how she's going to get her talent.

I think.

OMGSH I can't wait for another release, the last one was so much fun. We can all running around screaming about Bastille being dead again.

Book 3 is very good. I love the "Not a" bits and the new cousin's talent.

See, I was missing reactions like that. If you think it's cruel I'll stop though. I'm not going to give anything away anyway, but a few cryptic comments here and there can help keep things interesting.
We read the book in July and gave Brandon our comments and suggestions. The final book is sure to have changes, possibly significant ones. That's what happens with drafting.

Ook is an Alpha. . . he reads ALL of the books before the come out. ha ha.
I've read . . One or two that aren't out yet. xD

I'm 12 so I don't have a job like t hat so...yeah. I got the 2nd Alcatraz book like a month or 2 early.
Bastille

Being an Alpha Reader isn't a paying job (I don't think), it's just that Ookla's been friends with Brandon Sanderson for a long time, so he gets to read a lot of his manuscripts.
And don't believe him when he says he'll stop being cryptic if you think it's cruel. :-)
Not that I do think it's cruel, I think it does help spice up the forum and that's one thing I was missing about the pre-HOA days.

I agree with you Miyabi about not being able to wait for the next release. :D It's going to be so much fun... expeically with our current plans.
And Ook, you've got to give us a little something more for us to play with. I think we're running out of idea fodder. Please?
-
It's not coming until October. I can't say too much yet, you know? But let's say Bastille made a very good guess that Shasta's talent will play an important role in book 3.

Yah!!! I'm right, sorta, I think, I hope!!! I wonder if she's going to loose the lenses!!! Yah!!!!
Bastille
-
I bet there's going to be more about why Bastille was set up to fall. And yes, I think it was done on purpose. I'm also not sure about the Knights in general, although that's because we haven't met any of them but Draulin and Bastille.
I'm guessing there will be politics and government leader whatnots in the 3rd book. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Worldspire they saw in book 2 breaks. End of the world, anybody? :D
-
Hmmm... Those are some good ideas.
-
I agree. Very good ideas. I want to find out why Bastille was set up to fail as well. I think her mother did it personally.
Bastille
-
i think her mother was jelous of how fast she assended the ranks and her mother was alittle angry when she made it for more the a year protecting the Smedrys.
Also i think that Shasta will walk in just as alcatraz picks up the lenses and everyone is surprised to see her.
One other think Basille i personaly think that Black Burn and Shasta are siblings and that fight in the first book was very much like a sibling fight. Also didn't granpa smedry say that both of alkatrazes parents where imported maybe Shasta is in charge of that fourth group. ???
-
Hiya!! Glad to see you are on Shasta!! I can't really comment because you know what I'm going to say but I will anyway. I like the idea of Blackburn and Shasta being sibling. Here's another thing, Blackburn, I think was the only Librarian who knew about the Smedrys and Alcatraz. He talked about why the Smedrys gave up Alcatraz and Shasta said something about his parentage. Just ideas though.
Bastille
-
the part about Blackburns parentage and how Shasta mentioned is a good point i completely forgot that part
-
I think the most exciting thing is the "Identity" and "Possibility" on the Smedry Talent chart in the second book... when you think about it, that's a huge theme in the book. The Librarians are totally devoted to Identity--to keeping things exactly the way they are, predictable, unchanging, the way they "should" be. Like Preservation gone wrong. Possibility is what the free kingdoms are devoted to.
-
Wow. Never thought about it like that. But just out of curiosity why would it be on the Talent wheel? I like that though, it makes sense.
-
It could be that Brandon is working off a similar theme without putting it in the same universe. Basically, with the way the Shards universe cosmology works, it doesn't make sense to me to have Alcatraz set in the same universe because Alcatraz is basically our world tweaked a bit. Scribbler is also a tweaked version of Earth. I don't think Brandon would put a version (or two) of Earth in his Shards universe.
-
You're 12?! Wow, you are very intelligent for a 12 year old.
I think one of the bigger themes will be combining the two sides of the wheel. <,< Like how there is the "possibility" of what the one gibberish cousin said, then the "identity" of what he actually meant. But it was only while thinking about them both that Al figured it out.
-
Yes I am 12 and thanks for the compliment. (I'm almost 13 though, I turn 13 on 1st of April!!!)
That is a VERY cool way to look at that. It could be for any Talent because any Talent has possibility and a identity of what it really is.
Bastille
-
My library finally got the 2nd Alcatraz so now I can read this thread! Most of my ideas about the next book have been covered. The only thing I'm wondering about is the translator lenses. Obviously they are a big plot point, so there has to be something interesting to be read running around somewhere. What is it? I am guessing maybe more about Alcatraz's talent or the whole Identity/Possibility thing. Ookla says we will know more of the overall plot of the series after this book so I'm sure that the next book will answer/raise a lot of questions. Does anyone know how many books are planned in the series?
-
Five are planned, I believe, though last I heard he was only contracted for four. Meaning there'll prolly be five.
The thing about the incarnate wheel is that it's described, but we don't get to see it. Which side is possibility? Which side is identity? Where on the circle are Time, Space, Matter, and Knowledge?
-
There are five planned, but there are also quite a few other books that may become additional sequels. I don't remember where it was stated or I'd quote it for you.
-
So yeah, I just read this book in one sitting. Instead of finishing the big project I'm supposed to have done tomorrow. In my defense, I've been working on it practically every waking moment for the past five or six days, and I needed a break, even if it meant me not making the deadline.
I loved how downright benign the Curators turned out to be. The Library of Alexandria was built up as this horrible place, but really, it's probably the safest library they could have chosen to infiltrate. Besides, you know, the drastic consequences of accidentally disturbing a book. I have this mental image of them looking like Xykon (google it if you don't already know), only without all the nastiness.
The cover is, sadly, atrocious. Yeah, I went there. Sure, the glass dragon is beautifully rendered, but the proportions of the people are off just enough to give me a tingling feeling of wrongness whenever I look at it (rather like Alcatraz sensing a blood-lens being used). Alcatraz is way too big - if he were inside the dragon, he'd scarcely be able to stand. Bastille is, comparatively, too small. I know he's supposed to be the focus of the cover, but as rendered it's just too disturbing.
I love the possibilities of Alcatraz's gift. When focused and controlled, it becomes more than just breaking things - it's the power to change things, in whatever way you wish. Could Alcatraz use it to fix things that are already broken? I don't see why not. After all, you could make a case that fixing something is really just breaking its brokenness.
Then again, there are all the dire warnings about it twisting things and being an unstoppable force of destruction and all that. Kind of like Sauron in Lord of the Rings: poor guy couldn't create, only twist and break.
Edit: I also love all the poking fun at other books. Like the dig at Harry Potter at the end of the first. The Scrivener's hybrid fighter plane seems like another subtle jab at Harry Potter - one thing that left me unsatisfied about those books was the largely unfulfilled crossover potential between wizard's magic and Muggle technology. You think Voldemort is evil when you hand him a wand? What do you think he'd do if he ever found out about the atomic bomb?
-
There are five planned, but there are also quite a few other books that may become additional sequels. I don't remember where it was stated or I'd quote it for you.
Really? That's cool. :D

ryos that is just brilliant with the breaking somethings brokeness. It makes allot of sense to!!! Hopw did you come up with that.

Well, there are a couple more middle-grade series that Brandon is thinking of that he may put in the same universe as the Alcatraz books. That doesn't exactly mean they'd be sequels.
-
ryos - I like your ideas. ha ha. They make a lot of sense.
Ook - I'm probably completely wrong, or remembering wrong, but I swear somewhere the word "sequel" was used and not just in the same universe. I'll look for it though.

Very true.

OK, so I couldn't find the post I was talking about. The problem is I don't remember the wording of it exactly and I searched, but still came up with nothing definitive on the matter.
BUT I DID FIND THIS:
Alcatraz Vs. The Dark Talent is the fourth book.
-
Where in the WORLD did you find that out!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o I'm amazed!!!
Bastille
-
EUOL said it somewhere.
-
Oh okay. ;D That is an AWESOME name for the 4th book. Alcatraz Vs. The Dark Talent, yes very nice.
Bastille
-
Anyone think it'll have something to do with his Talent causing a lot of problems and coming close to "breaking himself" so he has to figure out how to use the special lens in order to save himself from himself?
-
Here's the post. He does say "follow up."
http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=6148.msg129376#msg129376
I Hate Dragons (Middle Grade fantasy. Maybe an Alcatraz follow up. Unwritten.)
Zeke Harbinger, Destroyer of Worlds (Middle Grade Sf. Maybe an Alcatraz follow up. Unwritten.)
-
I see!
That's what it was that I had seen.
-
An Alcatraz follow up? That will be cool. I wonder how long Alcatraz 5 will be?
Bastille
-
I'd assume around the same length as the others considering that they are all YA novels.
-
True but he said it would be a bit longer so my guess it would be about 400 pages 450 at most because of all the big print.
-
Yeah.
-
I wonder what the last book is going to be called?
Bastille
-
My searching did find anything on the fifth only book four.
So what do you think of my hypothesis on what the title means?
-
Oh yeah..I loved it (i love anything to do with Alcatraz) It sounds like something I think will happen. He's breaking himself so he has to try to figure out how to work the lenses. I like someones theory (I forget who's) it says breaking something that is already broken could be fixing something in a way. Or something like that.
-
The concept seems to make sense, but I'm also not sure that it would be able to work that way.
It's just . . backwards.
-
The problem with the talent breaking him is that it seems to like him alive and whole. It sure seems to go out of its way to protect him from direct aggression.
It could, however, break and twist everything he loves. It could also very well be capable of destroying the world. At least, that's what I get out of the foreshadowing in the first and second books.
-
Often times destructive powers eventually turn on themselves unintentionally. It could be that the Talent begins to accidentally break him.
-
I agree with both of you. If the Talent doesn't break him then it's going to break every thing and everyone that he loves.
Bastille
-
the idea of him braking himself is very likely because he is very capable of bracking living thing like that chickenin the firs book and if he is not carful then one day when he gets angry he will brake the closest thing to him, the person nearest to him inboth of the books is Bastille so that would be interesting. :o
Shasta
-
I still think he's gonna break the world spire.
-
Oh..breaking the Worldspire!! Now THAT would be fun.

I actually think the closest person to him is Grandpa Smedry but since we didn't have Grandpa Smedry in the little group in the first and second I guess Bastille would be the closest person.
Bastille
-
i am not talking about closeness as in love i was talking about everytime he really breacks somthing he is near Bastille. so it is more likely it will Bastille and not Grandpa Smedry because it seems he is always away when bad things really happen to Alcatraz :o
Shasta
-
Okay, you win. I wonder why that is though. ???
-
Because Grandpa Smedry arrives late to everything? (especially bad stuff)
-
Good answer. :D That's a good example because if something like his Talent (I'm using the next word because I can't think of a better one) exploding, Grandpa Smedry would arrive late to it so the next closest person would be Bastille!!! Whoa. If any of you can understand what I just wrote I applaud you because I can't.
Just a little thing I found in the 2nd book. When Alcatraz first sees his first Curator and he puts on his Discereners Lenses he says the Curator glowed white so that Curator could have been his father. Just a little note I wanted to share.
Okay. I found this on the internet and to me it looks just how I picture Bastille to look like in the book. I just thought it looked cool so here it is. Sorry it's so big. I can't size it down so it's small. :-\

-
O.o
Bastille doesn't look like Kadaj. ha ha. At least I never saw her that way.
EDIT: OMG look at my post count!
-
Let me guess, you have exactly 1337 posts. Now to see if there's a similar filter for post content...
-
OMG!! Your post count is so weird. I always saw Bastille with short silver hair even though the book says it's long with hair like that. When I found this it just seemed to say what I pictured Bastille to look like. I really don't care if people think it's weird or not because it's what I think and that is that. :D That sounded so weird coming out of my mouth.
Bastille
-
Bastille, that's how I pictured Bastille too. I don't know why. She just sounds like it.
-
I know. And I looked at the rest of the pics on the internet of her and now I'm even more convinced. Now I need to find a pic of Alcatraz!! :D
OMG!! (This is the updated part of the post) Look at this I found on the internet. (I know some people don't think it looks like Bastille but whatever, I do.) :D I love the look on the face and what it says!! It just fits!!
If this has another meaning or if someone wants to correct me in any way with this pic just let me know and I'll delete it because I don't really want to look stupid. ;D
-
The more I look at it, the more he looks like he could be Bastille if his hair was a bit longer and he was feminine. ha ha.
Actually the pic isn't insuative. They are looking for their "mother", Jenova.
-
THAT'S A BOY!!! oops!! :-[ :D
-
Yeah, that's the original reason I went. "buh? O.o ha ha"
-
hey i have areally good idea on now alcatraz breacks the world spire
the lenses some how end up there and as he picks them up shasta walks in and suprizes him then the worl spire is destroyed
( he always brackes things when he is scared, angry, or surprised or all of them together so this is really possibly. )
-Shasta
-
I'm not seeing him breaking the world spire . . . it just seems, overly ominous.
((Also Shasta dear, there is a spell check button on the bottom if you need a little help spelling. ;) 8)))
-
First, no way is that a man. Definitely feminine. Second, she looks too old to be Bastille. Remember that she's only 13-14. That chick looks closer to 18, and could be as old as mid-twenties.
-
See!!! That person does look like a girl!! It has the wrong face to be a guy!!! I guess your kinda right on how old he/she is but you can't really find allot of nice pictures of people who have silver hair who look just like your favorite character. When you look for pics of your favorite character then it's harder because your more specific on how they look. To me that's a okay pic for her. (even if the person is a guy ;D)
Bastille
-
He IS a man! See!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGmYeuP_DdQ

im going with miyabi on this Bastille it is a man
Also miyabi i am dislecsic and i hate having to check my spelling every time i type

Kadaj is definitely a guy. Though when my nephews and niece saw the movie, they thought he was a girl too. It was quite amusing.
So, back on topic... I didn't realize the first curator could have been his dad. That's really cool. I can't imagine they get new curators that often...
I'm pretty sure things are going to get a whole lot crazier in these later books, since the over arching plot was said to be more apparent in the next book?
-
I wish to revise my prior statement. The role was clearly meant for a man; however, for some reason, they cast a woman to fill it.
Also, the hideousness of that video will haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life.
-
It doesn't look like a woman to me. You're just not used to the art style.
-
I admit defeat!!!! It's a boy!!!!Okay, were going to drop the gender thing. ;) Sorry for even bringing it up. Back to topic. Who's next?
-
Shasta's Friend:
Kadaj is a guy. I saw the movie he starred in, Final Fantasy 7. I own it,too. He is a guy. He and Yazoo and his other brother whose name I don't know are guys.^.^
Hope that cleared it up.
And yes, he does kind of look like a girl. Just like Haku form Naruto.^.^"
Shasta:
to that really evil person who says that i don't have dislexia yes i do have it and i think that because i have it i would know more about it then anyone so just shut up i am alittle tuchie about the subject just ask Bastille
Also about the gender of the pic it is a boy and even if i had not read about him i would believe my friend here because she is an anime and manga nut.
-Shasta
-
What was wrong with the video?
Minus the tattoos and put sunglasses on him. ha ha.
-
Hey!! I'm not a mega nut and I would be talking!!!! I can share a few thing here about you so don't make fun of me!! :D
About the pic..... :o no comment. :D That is just so weird. I'm sure we can find a better pic though. (Not that your is bad, it just frightens me.)
Also, Shasta be nice please. You don't make friends here by calling them meanies. It's not nice and your 14 so grow up!!!
Bastille
-
Well that's how I imagined the cousins to look. :p
EDIT: Shasta I don't believe he was saying you don't have dyslexia I think he was saying that spelling and dyslexia have nothing to do with each other. Which they do. That's why I shut up about it. I have dyslexia and I remember how hard it was to learn to make sure things were spelled correctly. Thinks like the spell check button and the auto spell check that Firefox provides helped me out a lot.
-
Okay!!! You let me think how Bastille looks so you can think about how Sing looks without me criticizing you.
-
ha ha. I had to read that four times before I understood it. Maybe I should just go back to bed. xD
-
Before you understood what? Don't worry it's taken me like 50 times listening to it to finally understand it. :) (Yes I did say over 50 times and I'm serious about that. My iPod says I've listened to the fist chapter around like 80 times!! Oops!!!)( I can repeat the entire first chapter and prologue and occasional random parts I listen to, to much. ;D)
-
I meant your post. You have Alcatraz on your iPod?
-
You can get it from Audible, and you can also buy it on the iTunes store for $15.95. Its length is 6:16:16 (a very suspicious number, I suspect a conspiracy).
-
Haha...Preservation is everywhere!
-
miyabi that really does look like sing if you get rid of the tattoos.
Also i don't spell check because it makes me depressed to think i have to do it all the time
Bastille i was not calling you and anime and manga nut i was talking about colleen. i was just with her
also i will not grow up i like being a kid/teen :D
-shasta
-
I meant your post. You have Alcatraz on your iPod?
Yah, I have Alcatraz on my iPod and Shasta knows how much I listen to it and how well I can repeat it. Charlie McWade does a really good job reading it. He does a different voice for each charater and it sounds so cool. If I find a way to get it on here so you can hear how each person sounds I will because it's sounds really cool.
-
You can preview on iTunes. I'll have to DL it once I get my paycheck later this week. :]
-
she has probably read the first chapter a least 100 times and now i regret getting her hooked
-shasta
-
It's worth it completely!! I didn't have to pay though. Shasta's parents let me borrow the discs so, yeah. But it's completely worth it. Sing's voice is really cool. Shasta's and Bastille's are as well, but I still think Sing's is cooler.
-
she has probably read the first chapter a least 100 times and now i regret getting her hooked
-shasta
Yeah, it's all your fault. You got me hooked so your now paying the price!! :D ;D
-
I would like to publicly apologize for my previous statement. It is now obvious that I have offended at least one person with my ignorance.
-
I had a random idea. What if, in a critical moment, they needed some more power to save the day? Alcatraz and Bastille could just officially marry, get their parents' permission, get Grandpa Smedry or someone to authorize it and make it official, and walla! Two people with the Talent of Breaking!
Of course, that would complicate their lives. Not to mention spreading the Dark Talent. But it just might get them out of a dangerous situation.
Heck, they could even Break each others' Talents... that would be rather interesting, if they could do it.
-
While that IS totally cool, somehow I don't see that happening. I just can't see two less then 16 year olds getting married.
-
Heh heh. I wonder what you guys are going to think of Bastille's dad. And especially her brother.
-
You put ideas into my head that have not been there before...
I want her dad to be a cool laid back guy, and her brother to be (if younger) hero worship of older sis/Al (and play matchmaker) OR (if older) in total support of Bastille and helps her out in any way.
-
I could see a shotgun wedding. >>' Ook, darn you and your cryptic messagingness. Perhaps Bastille is actually related to the Smedry's somehow. She just . . . somehow hides her talent, or perhaps we've seen it, but don't recognize it? Perhaps failing? She seems to do that a lot.
-
fRR, you think Brandon would write something like that? ;)
-

I've tried thinking about that but it doesn't work. In the first book Alcatraz said he saw Bastille's foot prints disappear quickly (Even though now he can see them clearly.) And Bastille looks just like her mother and Alcatraz said that he could see Draulin's footprints disappear.
Ookla, darn you!!! I swear if you say anymore, I'll.....oh never mind. Bastille's DAD!!! I wonder what he'll be like? If he is like his wife and daughter than I wouldn't be surprised if he was grumpy too but if he's nice and laid back than I'll be surprised and Brandon can do that in these books really well. I'm just hoping that Bastille's brother isn't a knight of Crystallia. That would ruin everything for me. I want Bastille's brother to be just like firstrainbowRose said. Maybe he can get through to Bastille. If Bastille's Talent (even though she doesn't have one) was failing then how do you explain her success or the groups success during the Library Infiltration.
-
Sorry I didn't put this in the last post but I need this to be big and important. We all talked about how we want Bastille to get a Talent by Alcatraz breaking her but if he doesn break her what will her Talent be? I think it will be ether breaking or fixing. Fixing because when he breaks Bastille he breaks the Talent as she gets it!!!
-
Sorry, fRR?
-
firstRainbowRose
-
i really like the idea of Alcatraz breaking Bastille so she has a talent and the talent be fixing thing.
that would be really cool having Alcatraz and Bastills talents clash.
Alcatraz would break something importuned like he always does then Bastille would fix it.
I was wondering when someone would come up with the idea of them being related but me and Bastille already had a long discution about it and ruled it out for the reasons that Bastille said.
( we argued about it for about 4 months)
-Shasta
-
Yeah. Me and Shasta thought that a while ago but in the end things just didn't match up. And if they were related Bastille and Alcatraz couldn't get married like most of us want to.
-
firstRainbowRose
Hang on. Are you saying she is right??????? :o
-
No, I believe he's saying Brandon wouldn't write anything like that. It's epic fantasy, not a soap opera.
-
That, and he writes interesting characters.
Oh yeah, and this isn't the same topic, but there's a lot of romance in the next volume. :) (Wait, it's not a soap opera?)
-
Romance does that mean what i think you mean ::) ???
-Shasta
-
hey Bastille you can re-site more then the entire first chapter and the prologue along with randome quotes; you can recite the whole book and the letter from Shasta in the second book along with the alternate ending and random quotes. ;D
i have really spent too much time around Bastille, i know too much about you. ::)
-Shasta

That's what I meant by "not a soap opera."Oh yeah, and this isn't the same topic, but there's a lot of romance in the next volume. :) (Wait, it's not a soap opera?)
There can be romance without making it into a soap. Mistborn had plenty, but it was...tasteful.
And... I know his writing is good, but reciting extended parts of it verbatim is...a bit much, don't you think?
Crud, I'm using too many ellipses.
-
Romance does that mean what i think you mean ::) ???
Wouldn't you like to know?
-
Yes Ookla we would like to know!!! ;D Oh, allot of romance. Ideas are turning in my head now. I hope it involves some A+B=<3 ;D
-

Shasta, were extended family. Of coarse you know me to much and I know you to much. Stop telling them things!!! I don't want people here thinking I'm weird like everyone else!! ;D

Oh, well. What's done is done. ;D Doesn't really matter does it.
-
please Ookla tell ;D
fine Bastille i will stop :-X
-Shasta

thank you. :D
-
please Ookla tell ;D
I am sworn to just enough secrecy to tease you.
-
Ookla is very skilled in this area, I can assure you.
-
Yeah, I figured that.
-
we all know that because he does it so often.
Hey Bastille isn't it 7 months till the book comes out ???
-Shasta
-
I just asked tonight and it should come out in november. :D Also, this is NOT a shard/hoid world. Nor is Scribbler. So (of course) Ook, you were right on that count.
-
I thought Ook said it was coming out in October? And usually with Barnes and Noble you can get a book a book a month early. I got Scriveners Bones like a month and 1/2 early.
-
The release date is November but it will be out before its release date. :)
-
Okay. I thought you meant coming out in October. Sigh. This is taking to long. :-\
-
If you mean will you be able to buy it in October, the answer is yes unless Scholastic stops shipping its books way early.
-
I hope not. I like it how they do that. I'm not very patient.
-
Bastille--being able to recite the books makes you weirdly awesome!! I think that's the best kind of awesome.
I just finished the second one and I remembered how much I LOVE this story. I'm sad that there are only going to be 5 of them--I could see this series going on forever like Nancy Drew or something.
So, I don't know if this point was brought up yet (I'm tired and I might have missed something), but if that mysterious lense amplifies talents, is that possibly how Alc. the first could break time around his grave? Was how he could break time explained in the book already and I missed it?
Sweet--I'm glad to know that they come out early so I can look for it in October. I was worried that he hadn't written the 3rd one before being sucked into Wheel of Time world.
-
Oh I totally forgot to share this story. So I have a friend who is a Sanderson fan. It took me FOREVER to get her to want to read Alcatraz. She kept saying she didn't want to read a kid's book. When she was done she came to me laughing and said. "You didn't tell me that librarians were evil and that Shasta was like one of the main bad guys." We laughed for probably ten minutes in the middle of Wal-Mart about it.
The funniest part of it being - Her name is Shasta and her major . . . Library Sciences.
-
The funniest part of it being - Her name is Shasta and her major . . . Library Sciences.
Haha...and Brandon can't even put a disclaimer in that book about any resemblance being coincidental because it is a factual account, not fiction. Maybe that's why she didn't want to read it... :D
-
I purposely skipped over this entire thread to ask this one question... Is Alcatraz worth my time to read... i quit reading YA at the end of 4th grade and while i love mistborn and elantris im somewhat skeptical on this one should i check it out??
-

They are absolutely hilarious. They are full of humor for young adults as well as filled with stuff for older readers too. They are short easy reads and totally worth your time. Read them, for sure.
@Melba - Yeah. I found it funny. That's why I tried so hard to get her to read them. Just the look on her face after she had finished reading was priceless.
-
@Champion Kaz - Yes, definitely read them! They are written cleverly enough to be entertaining for all ages. Just means there won't be any huge words in there, and you'll be able to breeze through them. Besides, there are hints to Brandon's cosmology that you may miss out on. (Not the same universe as Adolnasium, but similar ideas)
-
Kaz, if you're unsure about them, you can always use a library copy first (if they will let you borrow one).
I think they're hilarious. They're for a young audience, but there are lots of older audience allusions in there. Plus it makes fun of Harry Potter, so who couldn't enjoy that?
-
Trust me Kaz. You'll like 'em. If you don't that's okay to but there hilarous and everything else everybody said. :D Oh Hey guy I found the review on Amazon for the book a few days ago here it is, I hjope you like it! (I know Ook has seen it though. ;))
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
When Alcatraz and Grandpa Smedry make a pilgrimage to the Free Kingdom city of Crystallia, the Smedry home base, Alcatraz is shocked to see that he is, in fact, a legend. When he was a baby he was stolen by the Evil Librarians, and his mother, a Librarian herself, was behind the whole scheme. Now, with his estranged father, who is acting indeed strange, Bastille, who has been stripped of her armor, and Grandpa Smedry, who is, as always, late to everything (that's his Talent), Alcatraz tries to save a city under siege. From who? Why, the Librarians of course!
-
Thanks I'm gonna check it out from the public library when i get a chance...but is it really not associated with one of the shards?
-
I just remembered this comic (http://www.unshelved.com/archive.aspx?strip=20071202). Gotta love Unshelved.
-
Thanks I'm gonna check it out from the public library when i get a chance...but is it really not associated with one of the shards?
No shards, nor Hoid. It is in a completely different universe.
-
I just remembered this comic (http://www.unshelved.com/archive.aspx?strip=20071202). Gotta love Unshelved.
Oh dear!! :o ;D :D That's so funny is a weird way.
-
That comic was great. Oh and BTW Bastille. Congrats on the topic being as popular as it is. It's one of the more popular ones on the front page. And I think it IS the most popular right now that isn't related to AMOL. "]
-
I had an English teacher in 12th grade who insisted "Mutant Message Down Under" was a true story. Well, the book does say so, but it's generally categorized as fiction. Unfortunately Alcatraz came out after I graduated or I could've tried to convince her that there really were evil librarians. ;)
-
Heh heh. ;D To bad it wan't out then. Thanks miyabi!! I'm happy that Alcatraz is getting some reconision.
-
Hey miyabi, I was wondering if you have listened to audio of Alcatraz yet? I'm not pushing you or anything. Just wondering if you've heard it yet.
-
No I haven't. ha ha. I've just been too busy with other stuff. xP I'll get to it eventually though.
-
Thanks! ;D
-
Okay! I was looking for the new Alcatraz book cover and look what I found. Aw darn. I can't get the silly pic up. Oh well. Everyone if your not to lazy go on Amazon and type in the title for the 3rd book and you'll see the cover. I can't believe the cover was speled wrong!! :D
-
Spelling errors happen on early mockups. It will get fixed soon enough.
People should know: Alcatraz's jacket actually looks like this:
(except not worn by a woman).
-
Going back a few pages, I think that if a Smedry marries someone, they have the same exact talent. (Which is why Shasta lost the keys).
Also, I don't think that Fixing could be a Talent, since they all seem to be negative things at first.
But some talents that could happen:
Forgetting things (information), not losing things)
Lying
Making messes
Wasting Time (perfect for this forum)
Giving only enough information to make everyone curious (that's yours Ookla)
Hurting yourself/Accident prone
Being able to make Really Bad Music (could go a LOT of places with this one)
Procrastination (though that is technically being late I suppose...)
Making things that don't work like they are supposed to ('Bloody Stupid' Jackson anyone?)
Making really annoying comments/noises
I think that's all I got.....
-
Ooh, you're pretty close to a book 3 talent!
-

I feel a sentimental attachment to that jacket. ;D
-
I wonder wich one... Procrastination? Giving annoying comments?
I'm betting it is Forgetting. It just seems to fit.
-
I feel a sentimental attachment to that jacket. ;D
Yeah... I need a new one. Mine is a bit ratty and stained.
-
I used to have one like that, but it was blue.
-
I wonder what a Christillyn jacket looks like? Leather perhaps?
-Edit- I didn't want to double post, but I thought of a few more.
Having really bad aim!
Bad eyesight
Sleeping in (also goes under late I suppose....)
I'm sure I'll think of more...
-
Passing gas at inopportune moments.
-
I always thought the Crystallian jackets were kinda like that but a little tighter and not have that weird fringe on the sleave.
What I like about the cover of the 3rd is that it shows that Bastille DOES get her knight back. What's with the lizard in the corner?
I think the Talent in the 3rd is forgetting things. It just seems to work. It would be close to Attica's I suppose though. I like the cover though. It's the best one so far.
-
Where is the link for Alcatraz Three cover? I can't seem to find it.
-
I'm sorry I can't do links but if you go to Amazon.com amd type in the title it will pop up.

-
Yay!!! :D Thanks Ookla!!!!
-
Great cover...EXCEPT! The green scaly head (is that a Gak?) is out of place and distracting.
Also, I don't see any reason why breaking couldn't be used for fixing, given enough control. If you have something in two pieces, joining them into one "breaks" each of them.
However, if the breaking talent is tied to entropy, that would limit its creative power. Needing to go from more ordered to less means you can't really fix anything by breaking the pieces.
-
I thought it was a Gak too! :D I agree it is kinda out of place. It's like ohh knights fight,......LIZARD!? I think we'll just have to wait and see what happends with the Talents. BUT I think I agree with Zas678 about how all Talents seem negitive at first. With that point made I don't think fixxing could be an option. ???
-
now im new here im 11 and theres one thing i need to say, lenses usually direct thier power at somthing. i think the the lenses alcatraz found somehow direct his talent at things! :o

This is a forum, not a chat room. Getting a reply within 5 minutes of posting is rare, not the norm. A few hours is common, and a day or more is far from unheard of.
Oh, and I'd guess most of the forum members here were either still asleep or on their way to school or work when you posted.
-
That's actually a decent theory that I don't think any of us came up with. >>' We were all focused on something complex when it could be something super simple. ha ha.
-
That is a good idea. I still want to find out what that green thing is.
The 1 thing I LOVE about the cover is it tells you that Bastille DOES get her knight back and that makes me very happy. :D
-
Not necessarily. Covers aren't always accurate, you know.
-
True, but Bastille had a sword. That has to count for something?
-
Not necessarily. Covers aren't always accurate, you know.
Case in point: a series of "Anne of Green Gables" editions with covers that depicted Anne wearing various pink dresses.
-
But the last Alcatraz covers seemed pretty much on the dot with what happened in the first couple chapters. In the first book they had a picture of him the library with a dinosaur in a tweed jacket and one the second they had a picture of him on the Dragonaut. Oh sear, I sound like a crying child in those last sentences. :D
-
Well, I can tell you that the cover doesn't cover the first chapter. Mostly that's just Al making fun of people for not reading the first two books.
-
im thinking maybe the cover of book 3 is symbolic? It shows Bastille with a sword and she is fighting an alligator, which might symbolize the bigger, stronger country of crystallia fighting with the smedry's and Draulin and Bastille
-
She's fighting the knight, not the lizard...
Anyone else notice that her head looks too big for that body? Like it was pasted on.
-
It really does. And Al's face looks weird.
-
She's fighting the knight, not the lizard...
Anyone else notice that her head looks too big for that body? Like it was pasted on.
Yeah! As in the cover for book 2, where Alcatraz was WAY TOO BIG. Apparently the artist who does these covers needs to work on proportions...
-
Well, how many female knights are there to use for scale, kolo?
And on the cover of book two, it's hard to draw proportions right when you need to draw four? people on/in a giant glass dragon.
-
Zas, it really isn't . . . and was that an Elantris reference?
-
I think it was. :-\ I don' t know.
I don't understand ANYTHING about the lizard thing. I wan't to see the back cover now because I want to see th rest of it's body as it (should) curl around the other side.
I never thought of Bastille's head pasted on but now I can see that.
-
Yes, miyabi it was. It just seemed to fit.
-
i went internet surfing and i found the back cover here it is, ??? or at least i think it is

Now, with his estranged father, who is acting indeed strange, Bastille, who has been stripped of her armor, and Grandpa Smedry, who is, as always, late to everything (that's his Talent), Alcatraz tries to save a city under siege. From who? Why, the Librarians of course!
if you think this is fake its not i copy-pasted it, it might be pledgerizing but im not publishing it
-
when i said back cover i meant the words on it ill try and find the picture
-
Sounds about right. And intresting. I can't wait to read the book.
-
??? whats up with that bob thing ???
-
The city is named Nalhalla, not Crystallia, by the way. (The cover copy is wrong unless they fix it.)
-
:( how come no ones replying, or do you just not have time to reply
-
What do you mean by "bob thing"?
-
I'm pretty sure combosia2634 is referring to firstRainbowRose's signature, making it a question only she can answer definitively.
-

Wait a minute, the city is Nalhalla? I thought that was the countrys name and then the city's name was Crystallia or am I just really confused? ???
Ohhhhh. I think I get it. The inside cover was wrong calling Nalhalla a city. Right? Or am I just confused again.
-

Um, combosia. Most of these guy have jobs and family that they have to take care of and also some people may live in different time zones so they might not post right away. Some post go off for a month then come back later. You jut have to be patient. ;D ;) :D :) I sure most peple will try to post when tey can. ;)
-
The capital city of the country Nalhalla is named Nalhalla City. Crystallia is a castle on top of a huge mushroom.
-
thanks for the info Bastille :D
-
Mushroom? Okay, now I REALLY want to read that book!
Also, combosia, it's just a random thing I decided to do one day. I would explain, but it's kind of hard.
-
thanks for the info Bastille :D
no problem! :D
A mushroom? :o Okay.....wasn't expecting that. Must be a REALLY big mushroom. So Crystallia is in the City of Nalhalla? ???
-
I had a dream last night that the book was released already, and I was thinking that it was waaay early.
-
Ooh! I just had an idea!
While reading Alcatraz 2....
The Worldspire is said by the Free Kingdomers to be the exact center of the world. It's a massive glass spike running from the upper atmosphere directly into the center of the planet -- whic is, of course, made of glass. Isn't everything?
Later (I can't find it now), it says that "Of course, I only saved the world because I put it in danger in the first place"
Now this may be him losing the Lenses of Rashid, or he mightt just somehow break the world spire!
(unlikely, yes, but it's just an idea)
Oh, and I think that Alcatraz I lens might make Occulators for those that use it (Bastille)?
-
The breaking of the world spire has been theorized off and on quite a few times.
That would be cool. I think that Bastille will become an occulator at SOME point in the series. Al likes to lie to us, and he made a BIG deal about her NOT becoming one, so I think she will. ha ha.
-
Everyone thinks Bastille should become and Oculator. We just don't know how yet.
Ookla, I wish your dream was a reality. I want that book!!!
-
Some lucky kid at the HoA release won a copy of the manuscript. I wanted so hard to win! xD So did Mi'chelle and the other people we were hangin out with.

I know!!! That person is SO lucky. I wish he/she would sell it on ebay.
-
That would be against the law.
-
yeah I know. I can wait though! waiting............
-
It would be legal according to the First Sale doctrine. What wouldn't be legal would be copying it.
-
It would? o.O I thought it wouldn't because it hasn't been officially released yet.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-sale_doctrine
The doctrine allows the purchaser to transfer (i.e., sell or give away) a particular lawfully made copy of the copyrighted work without permission once it has been obtained. This means that the copyright holder's rights to control the change of ownership of a particular copy end once that copy is sold, as long as no additional copies are made.
(Note: Receiving a gift, or winning something in a contest, counts the same as buying something under the law.)
It doesn't matter that it hasn't been released yet.
-
Wow, that's pretty intense. I had no idea.
-
Yeah. Nether did I.
-
Of course, if you want to stay on Brandon's good side, you don't do anything that will tick him off. It would be a betrayal of trust. Just not technically illegal. If you've signed an NDA then contract law gets involved, but that's a civil matter rather than a criminal one.
-
Did any of you read Brandons Blog today? :-\ It sounds like he is planning to only make 4 Alcatraz books insted of 5. Ookla do you know anything about this or am I just confused agian? ???
-
I think the original contract was for 4 books in the series, but Brandon is planning on doing 5. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
-
A couple months ago Brandon was still saying there would be a fifth book even if Scholastic didn't want it, but Brandon may have changed his mind. We may not know until he writes the 4th one whether it's really the end.
-
Personally I think I'm going to have to read the 3rd before I feel if a fifth needs to be written. I mean we haven't really got anything happening yet. To many problems. The Rashid lenses and the Unknown Lense, how Alcatraz is to stop the Librarins, Shasta doing something (because she hasn't done much in the books), Bastille geting her knight back and allot more. I just think this seris need five.
-
I don't know. I think that Mr. Sanderson could wrap it all up in a fourth book.
-
Yeah, but we don't know what all happens and gets brought up in the 3rd book to know for sure if it will be able to complete in the 4th.
-
I agree, we really can't tell if we need the fifth book until we've read the 3rd. Maybe not even then.
-
Could Brandon just publish the fifth book at another editor/pubblisher if Scholastic doesn't want it? I mean it wouldn't be breaking the contract on the books because it just has four books on it. ??? :-\
Or is that illegal again? ???
-
Just took a look at this post: Alctraz cover (http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=6510.msg147576#msg147576) And I noticed a really disturbing thing. The knight, who is armored for horsback, has a right sabaton that looks like it's about size 20 EEEE. It was really disturbing.

Scholastic has right of first refusal on Brandon's next children's book. So Brandon could write book 5 and offer it to them, and if they don't want it, he can take it somewhere else.
-
Ohh. Okay. So if he wanted to make a fifth he could. I get it.
-
I just wanted to share that the cover is now fixed. It now says Knights of Crystallia. ;)
-
I forget, did anyone mention how the knight's arms hang to his knees?
-
Maybe it's powerarmor.
-
Is the knight a he? I was wondering who that was. :-\ The covers are mostly not to size. Alcatraz looks like Harry Potter if you notice.
-
Hey Ookla, I see to different release dates on the book. I've seen October 1st and November 1st. Do you know which ones right? ???
-
Everywhere I look says October. The first two books were officially released November 1 but available several weeks before that. It's possible they're just being realistic this time, or maybe they are really putting it out a month earlier that before. So it's possible you might be able to find it on store shelves at the beginning of September or end of August. We may not know until it happens.
-
Okay because Brandon's websire said November but everywhere it said October. It could be at Barnes and Noble at the end of August! Sweet! ;D :D
-
i say that since they have released the other books Early then they a probably doing it with is book. the origanal date was November and since October is a month earlier then that is the date they posted.
sorry i haven't been on for a while school problems.
i really want the new book now and i don't want to have to wait till October to read it.

I think everyone thinks that way about the books they read. The wait seems so long. You wait about a year for what about an hour (in this case) of read, and the thing, it's all worth it.
