Son of Man

Read the review here: http://www.timewastersguide.com/view.php?id=1072

Sounds interesting, but I doubt I'd read it based on the content warning. It certainly makes me want to read more reviews of it, though.

Yeah, you might not like it. It certainly isn't for the sexually repressed, but it's a genius piece of work.

I must stress though, there's a lot of sex in the book, and while it is all artistic, and much could be considered erotic, I wouldn't call any of it pornographic. It's working on a much higher level than that. Though the physical act is there, the book is much more concerned with the union of minds occuring therin.

Literally, in some cases.

It's a large theme in the book, but it fits very well in there. The author is maginificantly skilled in getting a feeling across - when Clay is in the zones of discomfort, you can feel his pain.

I want to be clear on whether you think that Fell and I are sexually repressed.

Because I think that finding public portrayal of sex, especially graphically, inappropriate is hardly "repressed."

I think Fell finds the book intresting becasue he allwayse wanted to be a Hemaphrodite and fight Evil goatmen (but have sex with the good ones).

This review leads me to beleave that this is probaly one of the sillist (as in stupid) sci-fi books ever written.

It was supposed to be sarcastic.

Actually, the only people not sexually repressed are Europeans.

Regardless, the book is still very good - it's difficult to describe really, because it's so surreal. It's not really about anything but experiencing the writing.

It's not that Europeans are sexually unrepressed, it's that they have no control of their bodily functions anymore.
The Folly of youth is to think that intelligence is a subsitute for experience. The folly of age is to think that experience is a subsitute for intelligence.

-Bloody peasant!
-Oh, what a give away.  Did you here that, did you here that, eh?  That's what I'm on about -- did you see him repressing me, you saw it didn't you?

He didn't say it was *bad*, necessarily, just that you wouldn't like the book, if that were the case.
