Well, NWN is finally at a price I agree with so I picked it up and overall am pretty impressed. Lot's of potential here. I've already downloaded some user made modules which have been more entertaining than the official campaign. Dang, now I'll have to buy the expansion too...
And with Soul Caliber II just over the horizon...
Anyway, I was wondering if any of you still play and if you might want to meet for a game. No DM, probably just stomp through a module, but I think it could be great fun. Playing with folks you don't know through random servers just isn't that much fun...
-
When I did play, borrowing my friends copy that is, I found this pretty cool server called "Dusk Haven" under the RP section or something. The website is nwn.uselesstidbits.com and I haven't been keeping up with it lately, so I couldn't tell you whats been going on recently.
-
It wont run on mine or 42's PC's.
-
I'd be up for it. How would we do it--find a server, or try a direct connect, or what? I don't even remember how multiplayer works on that game...
-
I've never had a successful multiplayer NWN experience, but I still wish I had. I was so psyched for this game when it came out. If you can work something out, I'd probably fire up my old copy and play.
-
Well after Boards we'll have to see about a gathering of heroes.
IIRC, if someone sets up a server we can just enter its IP address to connect to it.
Given my dial up connection, I don't think I'd be a good choice for the server :)
-
Ya doing a direct connect via ISP will be better then connecting throught someone elses static server. You'll get a better ping time. If my PC could run it I'd voulnteer my PC as the server, with my 1.8 mb/sec connection :)
-
If my computer RAN I'd volunteer it
-
I'd be willing, but my computer can only just barely manage NWN. I'm still not sure how I got through the single player campaign with all that chop.
-
Well, I'd like to give this a shot tonight. I'll pop on here and post my IP address around 8:30 central time. I'll wait 15 minutes to see if anyone shows up.
Just for 3rd edition goodness, we'll play through the Sunless Citadel if that's okay.
See you tonight...hopefully.
Oh, and I've got to remember the program that tells me my ip addy...
-
Yay, I played part of Sunless Citadel in pen-and-paper. We're using level 1 characters, I assume?
I'll definitely try to come, but I'm watching my kids tonight (Mommy has the night off) so I'd be very surprised if I get a chance to play before 9:30. I'll log on and see where you are.
-
Ok, since most of us either a) don't have it, or b) can't run it, how about we do this.
We get on mIRC or some other IRC-type program, same network, and some channel we decide upon. And then from there we just do a dungeon crawl, or if someone wants to, run a campaign?
I know theres less pretty graphics, but you can entertain yourself with those types of things anyway. So, anyone up for that?
-
Seems about as many have it as have Warcraft 3... It's just not installed for most people.
Make sure you update the latest patch or you won't be able to play. As late as I posted this I doubt I'll see any of you.
Remember, If no one is in there by 8:50 or so I'll log off as I'll assume no one is coming :)
So we actually can't connect directly via IP address so I'll make this under the Internet/LAN game option under the name: TWG
Password will be dagger
Hope to see you all soon...
-
I'd be there if my PC would still run it. But I'm not buying another Video card till I get a new PC.
-
That's okay.
If anyone had shown up I wouldn't have been online to discuss The Ultimate Secrets of Gaming with you. :)
-
Yes now I have the knowedge to rule the world!!
-
Okay, I haven't looked at this thread yet, and so I clicked on it and skipped to the last page. There I found only the post directly previous to my own.
I don't know the context, but boy is that a scary concept.
-
I wasn't free until 11 last night. Maybe some other time.
-
I didn't even notice this until today. I have to admit, though, that I'm somewhat absorbed into DAoC at the moment, and I doubt I'll be pulling myself away anytime soon.
-
I've got .Hack which is better at being a MMORPG then DAoC and everquest.
-
Have you ever played Everquest? Or are you talking out your ear?
-
Heh, heh. That is very funny. Talking out his ear. We would assume he does regularly. But I'm going to go with the 'you're wrong Spriggan' text.
-
Ok. So i should never be given money. I went into a games shop to check on the price of DAOC, and ended up walking out with NWN.
Ok. Nice game so far. The main quest is boring though. Maybe playing an evil character would make it more bearable.
If you want to do this... i dunno. Let me know :) I shall be more than happy to run around punching stuff while everyone else RPs.
-
We have a replacement computer as of today, but it's an office cast off from my father-in-law's business, so I'm not sure if it's NWN capable yet.
Oh, and Entropy, it gets a little better as you go. THe first set of quests set in Neverwinter is a little dull, but once you've captured the four beasts it gets a little better. I felt that Chaotic Good was the best alignment to play, as you could bend the rules enough to do some breaking and entering, but you still had to use skills to get some things done instead of just killing everyone.
-
The strength of NWN is not in its story or in its engine, but in its variability. Whenever I get bored with the games I have, or I just need a break, I download a NWN mod and play--brand new game, all for free. I just found a Ravenloft mod I'm excited to try.
-
Yeah, the official campaign isn't so hot. The one in the expansion is great fun however, as is the Witch's Wake which you can get free from the NWN site.
Also, check out the Hall of Fame here: http://nwvault.ign.com/index2.shtml
Great stuff! They have tons of modules and reviews for each. I've really enjoyed the mods I got from here!

You really thought so? Witch's Wake annoyed me to no end. There are a number of fairly decent adventures though, and I've enjoyed most of the expansion ones. THe Paladin one (can't remember what it's called) had a predictable end, but really made you do a lot of searching. I can't remember the titles of the others, maybe I'll get around to looking it up on my backup data.
-
Ha so my laptop run NWN and all I have to say is that it's realy sad when a free adventure designed by Bioware (witches wake) is more fun and a better designed game then the one that came with the game. ::)
-
I still can't see what the appeal of that story was. Talk about linear rail roading. And all that dialog. I don't play to stop and read eight pages of material every thirty seconds. That's what i read books for.
-
I'm not saying it's the best mod ever, just that it's better then the original.
-
I loved the witches wake.
-
What I like most about WW is you don't get exp from combat (well so far I haven't). And it encourages you to explore and talk to people.
-
That was one of the things i didn't like. If i fight something, i want more reward than 3gp, especially when its really fugging hard like those tyranic fog zombies. The town was stupid as well. Too small - only 1 house and no support industries. I demand realistic towns damnit.
I just liked the dialogue. It was good. And those cards? Me and a friend did it as 2 evil characters over a lan, and that was fun. It seemed to say that his fighter character (betrayer) would betray my (fool or something) rogue character. I liked that. But i don't have NWN installed anymore *shrug*
-
I think getting NO experience for combat is as silly as ONLY experience for combat. And teh dialog made it unplayable, not to mention that I've played modules that deserve their 2 out of 10 stars rating that concluded better with less time. i honestly have no interest in playing part two. It didn't leave me with anything I felt I needed. I reckon the whole thing is going to end with some massive revelation that you should have been clued in on all along. So far it's only repeated the same things all along.
I did like the original better. And Harper's Tale and the Dream Catcher campaigns were both MUCH superior to this official one. I heard also that Undrentide wasn't worth it. I'm losing faith in Bioware's ability to make a good module for their own game.
-
The only comment about Urentide i have heard was TYcho saying it was awesome.
-
Again NWN and it's expansions are about the toolset and what you can make, not about the premade adventure. One the toolset was done Bioware moved it's exceptional design people to KoTOR and had others make the adventures. KoTOR proves that Bioware can still make grate games, with NWN they want you to do it. I don't agree with that thinking (I think they should make a great adventure to go with the toolset), but some people probaly wouldn't buy the game/expansion if there was no included adventure.
-
They do want it to be like D&D that way. (An odd thing about D&D, it's about the only RPG I've seen out there that doesn't have an intro adventure in the core books). I personally don't have time to program my own adventures, so wouldn't like NWN if there weren't adventures out there. Does Undrentide have any changes to the toolset? or just an adventure?
-
Each of the expansions add new skills, prestege classes, tilesets, models and skins.
-
Yep, bioware sure does make some grate games. Like this one they've got coming around. The one with the chinese legends and stuff. Its name I forget. But I saw the trailer or what not, and it looks good.
