I don't have anything to PUT in a thread, but I have one. Actually, this is probably a good place for a quick FAQ:
1. My name is Dan Wells, and I have a psychological horror series coming out soon.
2. The first book in my series is called I Am Not a Serial Killer.
2. My book will hit shelves in the UK in March of '09, in Germany in October of '09, and in the US in April of '10.

ROFL. Horray! Looking forward to seeing it in print. But why the UK first and in the US so much later? Is it because the publishers thinks you have...um...British kind of humor? What?
-
All your true friends must import the UK version.
-
I'll probably get it from the U.K. so I don't have to wait an extra year to read it. lol.
-
From what I hear about the book on Writing Excuses, it sounds superb. It's unfortunate it comes out so late... I'm eagerly waiting when I get my hands on it. I hope I'll like it!
Fell, do you still need more bacon, or does the Buy Dan Bacon link on Writing Excuses not apply any longer? If you do still crave the bacon (who doesn't? Well, other than vegetarians), what would be the bacon-related items highest on your priorities? Preferably something that no one has given you yet.
EDIT: For shame! There are still many bacon-related items yet to be purchased!

Psh, the true friends will import the German version where Fell is worshiped like Hasselhoff. He was even there when the wall came down--promoting not killing people in a serial manner.

Hurray for Dan! Will the British versions have better covers than the American?
-
That too, Spriggan, but at least the UK translation can be experienced before the book is released in its original German.

Congratulations, Dan! I've come back from the land of the lurk just to congratulate you, really I swear.
Also, Of course the British covers will be better, it's almost impossible for it to work the other way.
-
Go, Dan! Very awesome. Well, more so for the Brits who get first crack at it. Dang. Even the Germans will beat us to it! I might have to just buy it from amazon.co.uk. Hmm, I wonder if they give free shipping if your order totals over a certain amount...
-
If they do free shipping, we could all combine our orders. Hm, now if there was only a good way to get them to each other after that. . . .
-
I believe Amazon allows multiple addresses on single orders for shipping. I'm just sayin' ;)
Congratulations, and I will probably step outside my reading comfort zone to try it out as I have heard some very interesting tidbits here and there. :)

I actually have a picture of the UK cover (or at least an early version of it), and as soon as I get it posted on my website (yes, I also have a real website in development) I'll link it here.

Ooh, excellent. I'm curious to see.
Oh, and by the way, I just have to ask. Could we possibly get some Fell Points if we order your first ever book?? ;D
-
Every time you order one of my books you get a Fell point, and if you order both the UK and US versions you get a bonus Fell point.
-
Wow. It's only £7-ish at Amazon.co.uk. Is it paperback?
-
That's what it says.

Hooray for threads.
Yanno, Dan, it never occured to me before, but I just assumed you sold North American rights... Your book IS coming out in Canada, right?
...Right?
-
Tor is putting it out in the U.S., and I haven't heard of them putting any home-grown book out in the U.S. without putting it out in Canada as well.
Book contracts in the U.S. almost always include Canada. When the book originates outside of the U.S. in the first place, the likelihood Canada isn't included goes up, but it's still fairly rare.
-
Yay, congrates Dan! I'm excited to read your book as well. Dang, though. 2010? Are you serious? Might have to get a U.K version, too.
-
Sorry for the late reply, but yes, it is coming out in Canada...in April 2010. Depending on who you sell to first, both the US and the UK will buy Canadian rights. My US contract cam first, so they bought "North America," though humorously that does not include Mexico. The UK bought "Commonwealth," which includes the UK, Australia, and usually Canada, but since I'd already sold Canadian rights to Tor they were left out of the UK contract.
-
Well darn. Was hoping that it would come out in Canada at the same time as the UK, which sometimes happens. I guess we'll see which wins out, my impatience to read your book, or my phobia of buying things online...
