I just finished it yesterday and I loved it too.  Though I felt bad for John in the end.

You felt bad for John? I felt bad for Brooke.

Yeah, what happened to Brooke was terrible, but I still think John suffered the greater loss.  Because of her he got a taste of what it was to be normal and that's not something that I think he's likely to experience again.

I assumed it meant he was cured for good.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

That his sociopathy was cured for good?  Hmm...I didn't think that sociopathy was something that could be cured.

They cured one in House, when it was a symptom of a different underlying condition.

I thought the implication in Dan's book was that John's sociopathic tendencies were a result of trauma from his father abandoning him, rather than an incurable genetic condition.

I've always thought of it as being like autism in that the brain is unable to communicate with the empathetic part of the brain.  I might be mistaken though.  I haven't studied it.

True sociopathy is a combination of physiology and emotional trauma.

Ahh.  So a true sociopath can be treated (for the emotional trauma) but they'll always have those tendencies.  Got it.
