A conclusion I have come to . . . .
« on: April 06, 2011, 01:22:12 PM »

I know who Hoid is.

Ever noticed how sometimes he says stuff that's super useful, but may not seem useful.  Other times he says stuff that seems useful, but is way off?

Doesn't that sound like a certain Mok to you?

so you're saying Hoid = Peter. Interesting.....This certainly deserves some investigation. Miyabi, let's organize a stakeout, and get some real answers! (And afterwards, if we're hungry, we can have a steakout)

That's exactly what I'm saying.

Especially considering Brandon does do cameos.

Ew, steak is gross.

I'll join you. Hoid is delicious.

I meant steak. Steak is delicious.

Brandon started writing about Hoid before he ever met me.

Peet on the bridge crew is named after me, though. And don't forget Ahlstrom Square in Mistborn. (Is that where Kelsier met Hoid? Or where he did something else? I can't remember.)
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

*spoiler alert*

Isn't that where he dies? Cuz isn't Hoid the noble informent that looks like Robert Jorden?I can't remember either. It has been years since I read the books. Which probably means time for a re-read. :/

No, Hoid is the informant he talks to right *before* talking to the noble.

SirZelig, that informant was shaped after Tolkien, not Jordan :) Old, fatherly, pipe, stories, etc. That's also book #3. Hoid appears in book #1, when Kelsier plays an informant himself. First he visits a real informant (Hoid), pretending to be a noble; then he disguises himself as an informant and talks to Straff Venture.

Sorry. Like I said it is time for a re-read. I seem to have forgotten a lot. I knew it was after someone, so I was close!

Peter - awe.

He's in boot 2 as well.  Hoid seems to change appearance between books and worlds.

He also sort of appears as an informant (in book 3, I think) that Vin *almost* gets to talk to before being driven away by a sense of irrational fear, most likely as a result of Ruin slapping a giant spoiler tag on the encounter :P

Miyabi, the draft chapters of The Liar of Partinel kind of give an explanation why this is possible - assuming that what is written there is part of the truth about the history of the Cosmere. Of course, his changes in appearance could be explained simply be saying that he is hundreds, if not thousands of years old and has had plenty of time to grow bear, cut hair, and so on.

Argent ;)  I know.  That's technically not canon yet though.

So what your saying is, Brandon found you out and now your staying close to him to try and control the flow of information about yourself. Very clever HOID.
