VOTE EARLY VOTE OFTEN!
As for voting often...apparently the suvudu guys are aware that there is a lot of 'cheating' going on, and they don't care because there's no easy way to do it and it requires sitting in front of your computer for hours. So, then it becomes a matter of dedication rather than just a popularity contest. If any of you are unaware of how to 'cheat', PM me and I will share the method. The QB team is going to be voting a lot, and since Brandon's fans are generally so nice I felt bad about the possibility that you guys might not know how. I'm the one that rallied support for her against Jon Snow, after all. I'm supporting QB in the finals, but I like Vin too, and it will be a close match.

Also, I'm running a contest for best QB vs Vin write-up. Prize is a personalized copy of TWOK.

I changed my mind; I'm not going to make anyone PM me for the method. The reason I put "cheating" in quotes is because, since it's an open secret now and the suvudu guys are ignoring it, there's no point in even pretending like it's still cheating any more. I didn't really get into the cage match thing so much last year (I just voted for Rand like a good WoT fangirl), but I'm told there was a lot of cheating going on then, and there has been a lot of talk about it this year. In most cases, the talk was ridiculous as the 'suspicious' vote surges always had rational explanations - Brandon did a blog, GRRM did a blog, major Twitter/Facebook account rallied for votes, etc. But the fans who were unaware of these things jumped to the conclusion that the other side was cheating, and then they started cheating to combat the other side's perceived cheating. The WoT Facebook page mentioned in the other thread (ignore the jerks - and indeed, you should ignore them because they are far from representative of most WoT fans) was the first that I noticed (during Quick Ben vs Perrin) to go public about cheating (again, because of perceived cheating on the other side), which of course spurred the Malazan fans into action. So, now the Malazan fans (of which I am one) are accustomed to it. Therefore you guys need to be informed.  :P

The trick is to use private browsing. I'm told it works better (or more efficiently) in Firefox than in other browsers.

1. Copy the URL for the match. (you cannot copy anything to your clipboard while using private browsing, so you must do it before)

2. Either use CTRL-shift-P or apple-shift-P or go to Tools>Start Private Browsing.

3. Paste the URL into your browser navigation field.

4. Vote! (If your vote is counted, it will say 'Thank you for your vote!', and if it is not counted, it will say 'Your vote has already been counted.')

5. Exit private browsing (same keyboard shortcut as in 2).

6. Repeat as many times as you like. It is necessary to exit private browsing and re-enter again to make this work.

A hint - it's much more fun to do this with a friend or two, as the results are more satisfying. Please feel free to share this around the various Brandon forums. Good luck guys, and may the best contender win!

this wouuldn't work. The poll daddy polls they use check your IP address for redundant voting, and private browsing (AKA 'porn mode') wouldn't do anything to stop this.

The only way to do it would require you doing the above steps (to avoid cookies thwarting you), in addition to manually force-changing your IP (which, depending on your ISP, may not be possible) or by using different proxy server each time.

This doesn't work. And i can prove it. Try it with this poll. I just did in both firefox and chrome, using the exact steps you posted, and it doesn't work.

Like i said, polldaddy has a setup to check for this exact thing. Now, this check can be disabled, but if the people running the cage match are doing this, they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Edit: also, commonly, a lot of people THINK this work because in the time it took them to go vote on something a second time, someone else has all ready voted, so they think they ended up doing it.

Trust me, it works. We're not talking about coincidental votes here. We are talking about thousands of votes. When I was voting by myself, I watched it go up one at a time each time I voted.  If I was voting with two other people, I watched it go up 3 times every time I voted. This has been thoroughly tested.

PS - Aside from all that, like I said, the message is different when it doesn't work.

The easier way would be to open one browser and open your router settings in it.  Vote.  Change your IP mask on your router close the browser you use to vote.  Reopen and vote again.

Though this is, of course, cheating.

I live in an apartment and my net is ethernet. Either that or I'm using the uni wireless, so that's not an option.

Yes, it's technically cheating, but so long as suvudu refuses to fix the problem then nobody wants to sit back and wonder if the other side is cheating, so we might as well embrace it as a legitimate voting method. It does, after all, require some dedication.

By the way, I think Vin's surge in the Jon Snow battle was completely legitimate. Most of it came when the WoT Facebook group (with over 22,000 likes) was notified. We didn't figure out until after that that WoT fans were cheating in the QB vs Perrin match. Then it was ON.

(I'm a huge WoT fan, but I supported QB despite liking Malazan less than WoT.)

..... It's not that they aren't fixing a problem.  If you completely mask your IP the only way for them to know who you are would be to do a mac address check.

The only way to fix either loophole is to require registration to vote. Then, of course, you'd have people doing multiple registrations, and in that case they'd have to disallow multiple registrations from the same IP address. (And far fewer people would be able to get around it easily.)

Actually, I think there is an easier way to fix the private browsing loophole - there's an option through polldaddy that they apparently didn't use (based on above posts).

It appears they fixed it because it won't let you do it anymore.

I don't know, I've voted several times for Vin vs. Quick Ben. I just give it a few hours between votes.
