My MTG decks (advice)
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:30:20 AM »

Hey!  I just recently started playing this game again.  I've spent entirely too much money on boxes of cards and boosters recently.

I'm not too good at deck building, at least not yet.  This is what I've got, any input on what I should change would be very helpful.

I'm trying to use red for direct damage and white for preventing damage.

Keep in mind I'm trying to keep it standard.  (I just spent forever today getting rid of non-standard cards.

off hand, my only critique is that all your creatures are relatively high cost. I would put in some 1 mana cost creatures.

some lowly goblins maybe, like rage goblins, or frenzied goblins, there's also a bird from white whose name i cant remember that's 1 mana cost 1/1 flying. Simple but to the point. also, some figure of destinys would probably be nice.

also, instead of the trigon of mending, an essence bottle is slightly more mana effecient (saves 1 total mana per counter, and is mana free to use all counters at once). I've used this thing in conjunction with many a white deck to really buff my HP.

i'm not entirely sure what you mean by "keeping your deck standard" (keep in mind i haven't played MTG too much in the past almost 15 years now, though i do check up on new card sets on occasion), do you mean tournament legal? If that's the case, i have no idea what is legal and what isn't these days. So i dunno if these cards fit in with a "standard" deck, but those are my off-hand recommendations.

Standard means it is tournament legal which means cards from the recent blocks.

well, this obviously comes late, but my recommendation just off the cuff without really looking at them would probably be for the blue/black deck, followed by the red/white deck. In my aged experience, a green/white deck either all together lacks the punch needed to win, or takes too long to really get going. Not saying its an impossible deck combo, just that im skeptical of it.

Since we're talking about magic, and slightly off-topic-ish, you should totally sign up for and play with me cardmaster conflict sometime. I've been meaning to play it again, as i havent in years, and its very much so magic-like.
