Pompeii!
« on: April 20, 2004, 09:14:42 PM »
TFO and I are doing a project for school...we have to build a model of Pompeii. Now, we have already built the paper mache Mt. Vesuvius (soon to be "exploded", hehe), but does anyone have any suggestions for anything we could do?  Info on materials to use, info on Pompeii in general, etc. would all help.  ;D

Google Pompeii.  My sister just did this too and I helped her find info.  There are lots of sites that have info, maps, pictures and such.  Also if you google mount vesuvius you'll get a lot of info too.

Depending on how detailed you want to get this can get very expensive.  I remember makeing models in my High School aritecture class and we'd easly spend $50 on adverage a person.  I would allwase spend some of my cash for extra things, so I'd be in the rage of $80.

Paper machie would work nicely for Vesuvius, and for pompeii i'd use stryafome.  Not the stuff you'd get from packageing, but the modeling stuff.  Or Balsa wood.  You'll end up spending a lot for this project if you go either way.

Cheeply, I'd use carboard cutouts just get some from an artstore and draw the bulidings on it then cut them out and stand them up.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

Thanks. Yeha, this could get expensive...I may be able to find stuff out of peoples recycling bins and such...but that's pushing it. All I know is that I'm not buying the rest of the stuff, because i already bought the vinegar and baking soda *coughmaxgetyourbuttoutandbuysomethingcough*

Put the gods on the volcano. It would look pretty cool to see Vulcan or Eros slide down the mountain.

And will Mr. Golden accept a project like that? I thought it had to be something a powerpoint, or a poster with info.

I guess asking how far along you are is pointless, right?

It should also have Oedipus taking out the Sphinx, and the  Calydonian Boar hunt.

Here's a little fun 'fact'
"Oedipus became king of Thebes, and unwittingly married his mother (Jocasta) and became father of their children."

What I was talking about was near Rome, or Greece. And I spelled it's name correctly.

The Calydonian Boar was sent by Artemis to punish King Oeneus for failing to honour her in sacrifice.

The giant, wild boar caused widespread damages and death to the rural region around Calydon. Oeneus asked for the heroes in Greece to hunt down the boar.
