*sigh* More car crap
« on: July 22, 2004, 10:42:27 AM »
yeah, well.

It broke down.

Again.

So even though I left work at 4:30 yesterday it was more than three hours later when I actually got home.

No idea what it was. Battery works, despite being ugly. THere's fuel. Must be no spark somewhere I guess. I hate this.

I don't want a Ferrari (ok, so I wouldn't turn one down if offered). I just want a frickin car that will get me to work and home again without needing my life savings dumped into repairing the beast every three months.

Just like with my computer. I don't need a demon that can out process anything on the planet. I just want something that will play games made 3 years ago.

**edit:
Shop called. Minimum damage? $689.
Plus there may be a dented valve. How much does it cost to just CHECK for that? $124
What will it be if that IS a problem? God only knows.
Grr.....

Seriously, I'm opening the "help eric's family not be stranded while eric pays out his nose for gas prices because he has to drive his van 30 miles to work and back every day" fund. No contribution too small. no contribution too big. I apparently need a new fricking car.

Can't help with the car, but as far as the computer...

This was posted on the bulletin board here at work today:

Quote
Dell Inspiron 5000e Notebook with Celeron processor, 600 MHz, 15.0" XGA TFT display.  Comes with 64MB of memory, a 5 GB hard drive, an internal modem, and CD-ROM drive. Equipped with Microsoft Windows Millennium and Microsoft Works Suite.  Will also include a Netgear Ethernet card, firewire card, and "Deluxe" nylon carrying case.  Has worked incredibly well for me--would be perfect as a first computer.  I'm asking $250, but will consider all offers.  I have it here today.

Would it be something you're interested in, SE? I can get you in touch with her.

not really. The laptop that Jeffe passed on to me meets those stats. The only thing is that the video card lacks sufficient on board RAM to play a couple of the games I've got. I mean, wah. Right? I"ll live. I really can't justify paying $250 for another, good deal as it may be, when I need a new car. But thanks.

Doesn't matter anyway. Just talked to my coworker, who snapped up the laptop right as I was posting.

on a related note, in my first ideas for how to pay for this crap, my comic collection, despite being valued by Overstreet at somewhere around three Gs, will get me about fifty bones at a comic shop. Slightly more if I sell it in sets of 200 issues on ebay.

*sigh*

My best hope is to insure it all and hope that someone sets fire to my home and burns nothing but the comics and the records.

see, just when you think everything sucks in the world, the sales meeting goes ahead and leaves lots of leftover chinese food for the rest of us to feast upon

and that makes everything better.

well... .no it doesn't. but at least it makes the day a little less gray.

On the other hand, my wife said she'd bring me something tasty for lunch, but she brought me a plain cheese sandwich.  (In her mind, there's nothing better to eat, so I'm sure she doesn't realize how unappealing this is.)

True.  But she didn't.  Just white bread and cheddar.  (She doesn't like mayo.)

The more the merrier, surely.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

If I work it right, I can have her bringing you nothing but wonder bread and calling it "something yummy"
