Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
« on: October 09, 2009, 03:55:43 AM »
Anyone else pick this one up yet?  Just beat it, and I quite enjoyed it.  Top quality, just like I would expect from the Squeenix.

I personally feel Square lost its edge when Enix became its partner. They haven't put out an incredible non-FF game for ages. Kingdom Hearts is ok, but there is no sense of maturity to it (I'm crossing my fingers for KH3). Remember Xenogears? Chrono Trigger/Cross? Vagrant Story? Front Mission? FFTactics (I know, kinda cheating). Now we get Last Remnant. Balls, I say. Balls.

Yeah, I kind of agree, and will take you one further - they haven't made any incredible FF games either (at least not main-series).  Dissidia is pretty great, but other than that Final Fantasy has really been sub-par.  X is terrible, XI is bad, adn XII is my least favorite FF game (mostly because of the Battle system).  I have really enjoyed Kingdom Hearts, though.  It reminds me of the earliest Final Fantasy games, and has an interesting story, and well thought out characters.

I think that the next few Kingdom Hearts games may be more to your liking, though.  It seems like Birth by Sleep will be much darker and more mature than any of the other games in the series, and Kingdom Hearts 3 will probably ride that wave.  <shrug>  we'll see.

NO. I've been dying to play it, but I am broke and have zip income/time.

Hey, I LIKE X and XII!  I think XII's combat was better than those before it by a long shot.

Ew.  X (and it's sequel) was the WORST game in the entire series.

I liked 358/2 days.

BTW How are you supposed to SAY that?

Wikipedia says it's pronounced "Kingdom Hearts 3-5-8 Days over 2."
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

What an absurd title.  Of course, judging Square's latest efforts, I'm not surprised.

I have FFXIII on preorder for my PS3, but I dont actually have very high hopes for it.  Square hasnt put out an amazing title for a console in ages (no, im not counting the DS).

At this point, I'm waiting on Mistwalker for another solid JRPG, cause Square cant cut it anymore.  Thank goodness for Bioware and Bethesda.

Sad thing is the best thing they'll put out anytime soon is the remake of FFVII. xD

I remember reading a while back, I'm in a rush so I can't site now, but I will soonish, that they said after XIII is put out if they can get a few more people from the original project to come back on they'll do the remake.

There would be some issues with remaking it though.  Go solely with the old system and make all the old fans happy and have few new fans, or bring in an entirely new system that allows for more freedom that we see now and get new fans but anger all the old fans.

It's actually "3-5-8 over 2 days".

I would love to see a remake of VII, never having got the chance to play the original.  >:(  I think going with a new system would be great, simply cause I don't think the turn based system of yore can really cut it when such better alternatives are available.  I'm not saying it's a bad system, I'm saying they can and should do better.

Here's a quote by Tetsuya

Quote
I can just say, that indeed, whereas I’m still working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Agito XIII and a little later on The 3rd Birthday (this year), we will announce other games this year and one is terribly awaited from everyone and often “REQUESTED” by fans and even by the press crew that I meet all over the world.

There was something else too, but I can't find it now.

I also think that they should go with something new.  I would like to see a license system like they use in XII.

I thought the licenses were a tad arbitrary, but maybe a variation on this would work better.

How were they arbitrary?

I guess when occasionally you unlocked one thing and something completely unrelated became viewable.

Perhaps completely different boards for different things with hidden things on each boards for unlocking certain materia?

We need a topic for this. xD

Well, there was no real reason for it.  It just added something I felt was tedious onto the already complicated task of simply getting the best equipment.  And since each enemy was usually only worth one point it enforced the need to grind for them.

It's more or a you have to be able to use items like it before you can understmad what it is and at a certain point e able to use it too. I thought it made sense.

I liked FF7.  FF8 more.  But seriously, if they are going to remake a classic it needs to be FF6.

But yeah, how sad is it that the game that has the most hype is a freaking remake.

I miss the Chrono-Trigger/Chrono-Cross days.  And Tactics.  And Front Mission.  And Xenogears (a lot).
