No. Let's say the zipline is two feet. Then if you lose consciousness, or somehow get throw into the air while weightless, you're only going to fall two feet at most, probably not even that.

Without a line, you could float over delicate or painful machinery, or ten feet of more into the air.

In fact, if a hole is blown into the ship, being clipped to your station would be nice too. I can just see it now . . .

Bugger, I hadn't thought of holes. I can see how ziplines would be the way to go during combat. I still think they wouldn't be necessary during regular jumps, but seeing as this chapter's jump was in combat...

I'll have to give the whole safety-thing a bit more thought, apparently.
