Male Prom Queen
« on: May 30, 2009, 04:50:43 AM »
I saw this artical today, and thought it was really cool and just wanted to share it.  I think it's really awesome, both his creative thinking, and the fact that the school supported him enough to vote him into position.

Tux and tiara?  Gay teen voted prom queen
Quote
LOS ANGELES - An openly gay teen has been voted prom queen at his Los Angeles high school in a campaign that began as a stunt but ended up spurring discussion on the campus about gender roles and popularity...

"The custom of royalty in referring to oneself is to naturally employ the royal 'we'.  We are very happy, we are very sad, we are bored and suffer from ennui.  For a royal prince there's no such word as 'me', It's always 'we'.  So rightfully I should be two or three, don't you agree?"

I find that disturbing and for reasons other than his homosexuality... i mean a queen is female pure and simple and even a sex change doesn't really give you the means to give birth so a guy can never really become a chick... but then again this is my opinion and i think to fight natural laws is kinda ridiculous

I think he means that women are queens, and not even a sex change can truly turn a man into a woman.

Oh, thanks, I get it now…but I think you (Kaz) missed the point, then. Sergio (or whatever the kid's name is) isn't trying to turn into a woman.

Kaz is just wondering why he wants to be a Queen as opposed to King.

I think he was simply trying to challenge traditional gender roles. In that regard I applaud him and wish him nothing but joy in his reign. Long live the Queen!

Witchyfop is right.  It's not about wanting to be a woman or be like a woman, it's about the position within life that we represent.  I actually know a few "men" who are more the stereotypical "woman" of the family.

I think he went about challenging gender roles in the wrong fashion not to mention some roles are in place for a reason... a man can't exactly breast feed his child

Male lactation is a documented experience in many mammals including humans, and may even be common place soon. That is if, as the writer of this article puts it, "Will all you guys be able to get over your hang-up that breast-feeding is a woman’s job?" Next  ;D

There's a kick in the buttocks for Kaz.

Even if that wasn't so, I still think that you're missing the point, Kaz. He doesn't want to become a woman, or even necesarily to take over the traditional "roles" of a woman that you probably have in mind.

Apparently shaggy has just hit puberty and can't control himself... yes i am being unkind but frankly speaking stupidity deserves no less... you have very obviously missed the point of the argument and i do not wish to waste my time repeating myself even this post is worthless and makes me look as petty as yourself... which in honesty i am being just that
