I love this particular cover. Steve, you were totally right for saying it was awesome. I heartily agree :D

Curious, how do you go about finding an interpreter that you trust to keep the essential character of the original intact.  German or Dutch might not be so tough, but how about Spanish or French, Japanese?
You can always get what you want if you never count the cost.

You don't. The foreign publishing company takes care of it and you don't get any approvals at all.

Awesome cover, by the way.

Oh, I didn't realize there was a German audiobook coming too. http://www.amazon.de/dp/3869520183

All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

That is a cool looking cover!! My question is how come all the covers in different languages have differnet covers? Why not just use the same cover and translate it into the language?
Nature's first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I assume it would be because every time you sell a book to a foreign publisher, it's now the publishing company's job to market it how they want. The publishing company gets to provide the covers, so when you have different publishing companies, there will be different covers depending on how each publishing company wants to market it to its target audience.

Yeah, that's exactly it. They're not just different languages; they're entirely different markets.

Everyone asks if I "trust" the translation, and the simple answer is that each publisher has invested a lot of their own money into the book (Germany especially), so it's in their own best interest to make the translation as good as they can possibly make it. So yeah, I trust their translator implicitly--making me successful is his job.

I absolutely agree. The UK version definitely looks like its going for a more YA market, but still to me it looks very...simplistic. Just a flat red with some claw marks to spice it up...boring imo. The German cover looks like pure awesome.

How can you say? There isn't an American cover yet.

I must be the only one that actually prefers the UK cover. Maybe it's just that the "written in blood" look has been done to death. *shrug*
