I'm nervous as hell about this. Mainly because I haven't turned out a full novel yet, but heck, I've got to get the bad ones out of the way, right?

Well, just make sure you write consistantly, and you won't have that problem this year.  :P

Neither have I. My first novel idea (you know, the "golden idea") never got past 30,000 words. So I don't know how this novel thing goes either ;)

Ditto. To both....My golden idea didn't even get to 20k, though. Sad....However, if I finish NaNo this year, the book I'm working on (different than the golden idea, which I attempted to do last year and failed miserably at, like I already said) will hit almost 80k...I can work with that.

Yeah I'm slightly nervous that my book might not have enough for that, but hopefully my outline can prevent this.

I don't know, my outline for my new book has helped immensely. There are layers and layers of things to uncover, a good sixty chapters worth. I'd personally recommend a chapter-by-chapter outline, rather than anything vaguer.

Outlines like that are great if you can do them.  However, some of us discovery writers......

Well, yeah. Definitely don't do an outline if you're a discovery writer. But me, even when I didn't write outlines, I knew I was an outliner. Sounds counterintuitive, but it's true: I just always had the story in my head. That caused some difficulties, as I'd forget rather important pieces of information.

(I once had a story with seven items of ultimate power. I forgot what the seventh one was, so it got cut out of the story ;) )

For me, outlines are great, and of course, outlines aren't for everyone.

Yay!  New buddies!  My nick on NaNo is the same as here.  Adding you both!

You missed me, but that's okay. My name on there is nowhere near what it is on here.

For those wondering, I'm lord_otter.
