Magic for everyone...
« on: April 23, 2009, 02:16:20 AM »
B/c i dont know where this goes best i posted it here...
This question has been on my mind lately if everyone could use a magic system and the power difference was minimal and skill was determined more or less on control, how would this book/ series effect the genre?

If it was mostly a matter of education and practice, then it would suspiciously resemble modern technology.  The mystery would be gone and the "magic" of magic wouldn't be magical anymore. :)

...I have a world that has magic somewhat along those lines, but it's also highly technical.

I have to disagree with you, Renoard.  It's still quite magical.  The key is that you don't reveal the intricate technical details to those who are reading.  Still quite magical.

If you keep it in an air of mystery you do keep it from being a science. Science in its traditonal meaning is to search for knowledge...

That's how it functions in-world.  Just not for the reader.
