I worked in a laundry once. We had these awesome folding machines: feed the clothes to a conveyor belt, and they went through a pneumatically-driven process and plopped out the other end folded. Worked on towels and shirts, but we had to fold the shorts by hand.

I'm grumpy because I need to find a loan, and I don't qualify for federal aid anymore due to too many credits. I AM trying to graduate, promise...

I've just found out that I'm double-booked... For the first day of class. How typical. ::)

Hopefully that's not indicative of how this whole degree is going to go.

Spambot got into my Facebook, and sent everyone on my friends list that was currently online an IM that linked to a quiz of some kind.

The first recipient? Howard Tayler. x_x

It feels like everything is just falling apart.  Don't know what's going on.  I feel like I'm walking through a life that doesn't belong to me, observing as things pass by slowly and not in any way the way I feel they should.  No matter how much I scream or push no one hears me or feels me.  The walls of destiny are too hard to push aside and change.  I just wish I could find a weak spot I could push through to find a new path.  I need a way out.

Same thing happened to my brother this last week.

And Chris, I empathize. In a way. A few unexpected things have happened recently to me that I really would rather had never happened, but they were out of my control. And it sucks. But oh well. I'm used to this kind of emotional drain. What I'm not used to is this lack of caring what happens next that just started.

Anyway. More relatively on-topic. Grumpiness--I drove delivery tonight and made 34 bucks in tips, along with 10 for gas money. Unfortunately, I stuck all the tips/gas money back into the money bag with all the rest of the money, which was then dropped into the safe in my boss' office. And because my boss is a stingy little (*insert a word I'll not say because I really should be curbing my swearing habit*), there is less than a 1% chance I'll get it back. And with this idiocy, my chances of attending the WoK release party have been axed. Yeah, I'm more than a little peeved right now.

You know what really sucks? Waiting months for a book to come out, the first book in what promises to be an amazing new series by a favourite author... and then going to the bookstore and discovering the money you thought was in your account is no longer there.

It's even worse when you look into your account and discover several transactions that you did not make. Then you call your bank, and they give you the information on the recipients of these transactions, and you call them to find out what's going on and why they're charging you money. And then you discover that they're billing support services for adult websites. And while it's great that they refund your money (which will take about a week), you're now stuck with the knowledge that someone out there has your card information, and unless you can get it fixed soon, you're SOL and JWF.

And thus you have to wait until your next paycheck, which won't be for another week, in order to buy anything, let alone this book. So you have to ignore all the discussion and theorizing going around, because spoilers make the angry voices cry out for the blood of the innocents...

Well if that's not the perfect end to an 18-hour day I don't know what is. I go to bed and the bloody CEILING falls on me. No, really.

Yes, I do mean that literally.

...okay, fine. It was only one ceiling tile ("only") and it didn't land directly on me--it brushed me on the way down. It did, however, hit the nightstand next to me and knock over my water glass and half the stuff I had on there. (Thankfully not the one thing which would have really been breakable.)

It also flooded dirty water all over my bed and my floors (which I had to clean, since they're lamanate, and leaving huge puddles of water on them would ruin them). And got water all over the papers that I was keeping on the bottom shelf of said nightstand.

You can't make stuff like this up.

I am NOT IMPRESSED.

I'm getting really ticked about health insurance. When Lizbeth was born, she had a heart murmur from three very small holes in her heart. The doctors said not to worry about it, that there was no possible treatment, and that the holes would most likely go away on their own as she grew. Well, when we moved to Utah and applied for health insurance, she was denied by two companies. However, we managed to get her covered under Utah's CHIP program because we didn't make too much money to qualify.

Then she had her 18-month checkup (a bit late), once we had her health insurance. And there was no heart murmur. Three different doctors since then have agreed. No heart murmur. So what the doctors told us in the first place was right; the issue cleared up on its own.

In January, I started working more hours and got a raise. With that, plus the money we make from freelancing for TOKYOPOP, we're close to the upper limit of eligibility for CHIP. So it would be best if we could get Lizbeth covered under our family plan. So we applied, and this time they didn't reject her. Here's what they offered us:

Our per-person deductible would increase from $1000 to $2500.
Our family deductible would increase from $2500 to $5000.
Our prescriptions deductible would increase from $500 to $1000 (I'm not sure if that is per person or per family).
The out-of-pocket maximum (beyond the deductible they still only cover 70%)--they didn't tell me how much it would increase, but I assume proportionally.
And our monthly premium would increase from $422 to $509.

So we'd be paying $6100 per year for health insurance that wouldn't actually help us unless we paid at least an extra $2500 and possibly another $5000. So we'd pay $11,000 before we see one cent of insurance claim help.

All because of something the doctors swore to us was not a problem and that we shouldn't worry about, and that is in fact completely gone.

Meanwhile, CHIP has to go through a renewal approval process every year. Except they didn't tell us when this was until it had already passed. But there was a one-month grace period we were still within. But then they didn't tell me everything they needed. I send them everything they ask for, and they send a letter in the mail two weeks later saying "Oh, we also need THIS, and now you're outside the grace period so you need to reapply." So I did, and two weeks later they sent a letter saying we were denied because we owe the CHIP program $40. (They couldn't tell me that last time??) That was on Thursday, and they're closed on Fridays. So I got up at 7 AM this morning to call them and they said we owed them $25, that we paid only $50 of our last $75 bill. (I know $25 is not $40 but apparently they don't...okay, that's not fair; the $40 probably includes a $15 late fee, but why they didn't mention that on the phone today...) I told them I have a receipt for $75 I paid in May. They looked some more in their computers and said one of two computer systems says we paid $50 and the other says we paid $75. And they will have to figure out what's up and then call me back. They said they'd probably call me back today. I'm still waiting.

Meanwhile I asked our SelectHealth broker if they would offer us a plan with the same deductible we currently have but with an even higher premium. He said no, they can't do that. And we have until October 17th to accept their current offer. My optimism that we can arrange everything with CHIP before then is not high, since they keep telling me (after two weeks) one more thing they need me to send them. (They did that when we applied last year too.)

And we had a bunch of bills come out of nowhere in the last couple of weeks that wiped out 75% of our checking account.

So I'm grumpy.

Newest problem. I am hopping mad.

We got a letter a few days ago saying we owe $500+ in back property taxes for the mobile home in 2009. I checked my tax bill from 2008 and it says it's for the fiscal year July 1st 2008 to June 30th 2009. We left the state in May 2009 and the mobile home became the property of the bank. So I sent them a letter saying we had paid any tax we owed, and gave them canceled check numbers.

They called me on the phone just now and said that because I was in my house on January 1st, I still have to pay taxes for the fiscal year July 1st 2009 to June 30th 2010. That doesn't make a shred of sense to me. We cannot afford to pay a tax bill like this, especially on something we did not own for the fiscal year that applies.

Man, that's lame.

I've always been of the opinion that dealing with insurance companies and the IRS are the worst situations to get into, because there's almost no chance of you getting anything that resembles being fair for you, and you're stuck between both of them at the same time.

When you bought the house, did the people who who were in it on Jan 1st pay the taxes for that year?  I'm assuming not.   >:(

I was very excited to be able to order some nice HEMA-appropriate gloves (which I've been needing for months), and then I got an email today saying they were out of stock and had been backordered.  I'm praying they get them back in stock (the gloves appear to have been discontinued...)

I have a cold, and the book I ordered has disappeared in transit.
If I had any clue, would I be here?
