Monkey-related doomsday theories aside, Just thought this was an interesting article I would share. :)

Ummm.....why is this earthshattering news?

"Animals Plan" "Animals don't live in the moment, like we thought they did"

Anyone who has ever had a pet can attest to these kinds of things.

I thought the whole "Animals are dumb, soul-less creatures" idea was far behind us.

My HAMSTER planned in response to a future psycological stimuli. That stimuli was HUNGER. So the Hamster stored food.

I don't know why people are so surprised when animals do stuff.....

But yes, the Monky apocalyse, now that could be fun :D

well, in this instance, I think it's moreso the fact that the planning wasn't for basic survival (like a squirrel gathering nuts), and was for something more along the lines of planning for something he knows is going to irritate him later today.

Though, you're right, it's hardly shocking news to learn this :P

Edit: also, for fun, I've been doomsday preaching to all my friends about it all day :P

Did anyone notice that in the beginning of the article, they David Brownsomething like "The 30-year old chimpanzee, which has lived in a Swedish zoo most of his life.…" but later says "He often shows…" and "he's barraged visitors" and a bunch of other stuff refering to the monkey as a 'he?'

It's perfectly acceptable to apply male/female pronouns to animals of which you know the gender. The last sentence in the article is kind of disturbing though.

No, the last sentence on the second page. It's a pretty stark contrast.

I was referring to the fact that they switched, Ook.

It was a tiny bit random, too.

They didn't switch, at least not in the part you quoted. It is perfectly grammatical to call a male animal "he" and also use "which" instead of "who." "who" is generally reserved for people.

News articles often have little grammatical mistakes though, so they're not particularly surprising when you do see them.
