This didn't seem so strange to me.  It's quite a common belief in central Africa that people can change into animals, and vice versa, through sorcery.  We in the West may laugh, but many people in Africa take witchcraft very seriously.  Having lived there and heard some of their stories, I'm inclined to reserve judgement.

well, if their legal system is anything like ours, armed robbery will probably get him 5-10. Probably get a reduced sentence if he cooperates and rats out (goats out?) his accomplices.

Obviously, or they would never have arrested the goat in the first place.  Seems like a great way to get away with a crime.  Blame the goat!
