Congrats.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

My computer isn't dead. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it anymore. The hard drive not mounting  was due to a corrupted filesystem which happened because when I moved the computer to the bedroom when the wireless wasn't working, the wall socket the power strip was plugged into was loose (most of the sockets in our apartment are way loose) and next to the bed, which, when jiggled, cycled the power several times in a row.

This is a bad thing for computers... Mac OS X's filesystem is journaled nowadays, which is supposed to keep corruption from happening, but I think one of those subsequent power cuts happened when the journaling was fixing itself. The computer wouldn't start up, and when I started it via CD it couldn't see the hard drive. Disk Utility could see the hard drive but couldn't even tell how much space was used/free on it and couldn't repair it or even check it for errors.

DiskWarrior came to the rescue and rebuilt the filesystem without any losses. This is the third time in my life it's saved my bacon. So, this is a happy things post. I'll have to buy a new wireless router (since my computer is verified to work here at Brandon's and shows very good wireless signal strength), but I've hated that router for the last several years and will be happy to replace it. I'm thinking something with remote backup capability this time.

Jade,

Haven't seen much of you for a couple of days.  So how old is Ari?  You're just late twenties aren't you?

Out of curiosity, why not just grab an external drive (which you'll need anyway) and leave it plugged in? (I'm assuming from the bit about power cycling that you have a desktop and not a laptop.) Time Machine does the rest.

I've been busy!  Busy busy busy!  Wedding, work, and trying to do some martial arts, too...

Anyway, we're both in our 20's.

Well, if I got a time capsule, it would have the hard drive in it. As for getting an external and leaving it plugged in, I like to minimize wires and my computer usually sits on a very small table in front of the living room couch.

Some people see rain and say, "Oh, crap, now I need to wash my car." These people are crazy. I see rain and say, "Ooh, free car wash!"

<3 the rain.

It doesn't make sense. The rain is why I don't get car washes alot.

If it only rains a tiny bit, you're left with a lot of water spots on your car that dry to a slightly different color.

I technically should've posted this a few days ago, but oh well. I'M HOME!!! And yes. I am happy. I do miss Europe, particularly London (since I LOVED London), but I love being home.

And now my goal is to go back there in a few years, with my sisters. And I'll make it up to Scotland this time. And hopefully have a lot more than 3 1/2 weeks. I think at least 6 will be good...
