1)  The Way of Kings I believe will come out next year. (2010)  2)  No, they are not the same, but some elements from Dragonsteel will be used in it, as well as many other future books.

There is no way to get a copy of it, you can however do an inter library loan from Harold. B. Lee library at BYU Provo.  That is the only copy of the book in existence. (as far as I know)

I think my problem with being excited for "Way of Kings" is that the title sounds very mainstream, and I think Brandon's books (while still having mainstream elements), are cool because they branch out.  I'm sure they'll be just as good as his other books, though, so I shouldn't let the name deter me.

I don't suppose I'll get in trouble for saying that from what very little I know about it, WoK is anything but "mainstream".  At least not in the elves-n-orcs sense.

Y'all ought to know Sanderson better'n that by now.  :)

I'll be pleased if anything I did makes it through to the final draft. But I'll be double-pleased if that concept that Ookla is talking about makes it.

It does make it. Brandon told me again last week, and I assume he's writing it right now. (And will be for quite some time since it's a major part of the book.)
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

if by mainstream you mean different magic systems introduced in every book, then sure i guess you could call it mainstream...

this is a series i am looking forward to immensely. can't wait to see a draft.

Umm has anyone seen the cover art for Way of Kings on Amazon (tm).  Quite disturbing.  Certainly wouldn't entice me to buy.

Renoard, if you haven't realized it, everything about that Amazon listing, from the cover art (which was user-submitted) to the reviews, is a joke. The real book has nothing to do with Elvis.

i remember when that joke first hit Amazon. cracks me up every time...

as for his real cover, i tried to talk him into getting Swanland, but he isn't sure if it will fit the tone of his books. Though I think he's pulling for Michael Whelan...

I know that Brandon doesn't write things that are mainstream/generic fantasy.  When I heard the name, though, it didn't make me want to read it--I was just like, "Hmm...meh."  It didn't sound interesting and it sounded generic/mainstream.  So, yeah, I'm sure most people have no problem with the name or love the name, but that's just why it's harder for me to get excited about it.  I'll still buy the book the day it comes out, though -- of course.

Brandon has a cool new name for the series title that I hope he goes with. It's better than Oathshards, the old series title.

The first one is due out next summer isn't it?  Or is it being delayed because of AMoL?
