The Return of Skar
« on: October 01, 2004, 04:07:45 PM »
I think I speak for everyone when I say that we're tickled pink to have Skar back, safe and sound. He's a good friend, a great man, and he's spent the last two years risking his life on a daily basis. I can't tell you how many times my wife and I have sweated through each new announcement of "Another Utah soldier killed in Iraq" on the nightly news. To have him back again is, quite literally, one of the biggest events ever to happen on TWG.

I'd like to celebrate his return in a couple of ways: one or both, depending on the level of feedback we get. The first is a game night, already mentioned by Sprig in another thread, which I heartily support. The second is a dinner--possibly Buca di Beppo, since that seems to be the TWG celebratory restaurant of choice. We'll get together as many locals as we can, TWG and TLE combined, and have us a big old shindig. Donations will be made to pay for Skar's family's food, naturally.

If you are interested in these ideas, or if you have some ideas of your own, or if you're Skar and want to chime in on the idea, there's no better thread than this one. I think. I never check the Everything Else section, you know, so for all I know someone's said this already.

Buca is good.

Last night I suggested to Fell that we all ought to go laser tagging again, but he wisely pointed out that Skar probably doesn't feel like running around in the dark, shooting people.

Well, even the most fun activities gets boring after doing it for a few years straight.

Maybe he'd like to play Magic!

Hey folks.  Thanks for all the thanks.  It's good to be back and especially good to be reminded that y'all remember who I am after so much time away!

My wife and I would love to get together with everyone some evening.  Buca di Beppo sounds like a great place to go.

As for the lasertag thing, it sounds as fun as it did before I left.

A game night would also be mega cool.  All my magic cards are at least two years old and there's no one to play with up here so... just about any game sounds fun.

I promise to tell lots of war stories if you want. ;)

Let's pick a set date as far in advance as possible so I can get off work, ok?

Skar, send me a PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call; we can work out some dates and whatnot over the phone, then post them here for approval.

Is it just me, or has the return of Skar made everyone start posting more often? Shortly before his return, the board could go two days without cycling all of the 10 most recent posts, now it seems to move much faster.

it goes in cycles. I'm happy for the increased activity.

And, as my post count shows, it's never been MY fault when the board has been slow.

Huh, well welcome back anyway Skar!

I try to post consistently, but a lot of times nobody is talking about anything that is interesting to me, or that I can comment intelligently on. I cant usually think of a topic to start a new thread that hasnt been done either, so it kind of sucks.
