Thai Rights
« on: June 30, 2005, 07:22:37 PM »
So, we'll have to all go get curry when I get my next contract.  It'll be for Thai rights to ELANTRIS.  Not big money, but I still think it will be pretty cool to have a copy in Thai.

So that's what now, Russia, Germany, France, and Thailand? I was thinking there were four before but couldn't remember the other.
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

EUOL is taking over the world! How many first novels go into this many languages? I would imagine most just go to Spanish and maybe one other, but I don't know how it normally works.

I have two big things going for me:  Tor and Joshua.

Fantasy is a very cross-cultural genre, and sells well in a lot of different places.  And, since Tor is so well respected, it's easier to sell a book they've taken.  Also, Joshua does very well with foreign rights.

That said, I remember being at dinner with Joshua, Elizabeth Moon, and another of Joshua's authors at the last worldcon.  When I mentioned that I was disappointed that only (at that time) Russia had bought rights to the book, the other author looked a bit embarrassed.  Apparently, none of his books had ever gotten any foreign sales.

Yay! I love Thai food, and any excuse to eat it.

holy freaking thread necromancy.  Did you really think it was worth reviving a 3 year old thread just to point out you like Thai food?

Wait, don't answer that...I'm afraid you'll actually reply yes.
