Yahoo Mail is being sinister
« on: February 10, 2005, 12:48:50 PM »
For those of you with Yahoo email accounts:

Am I the only one who keeps getting file-download box every time I try to log in? I'm just a little creeped out by the fact that there's a file that is trying to infiltrate my computer every time I go to check my email.

yeah, not happening to me either.

Not that I go there often. I had to reactivate it even though I'm using the account name for other stuff.

Strange. Maybe it's BYU. The server has been slower than a rolling brick this morning.

Here's the info, just in case anyone recognizes it:

File name:  CAMN8PEB.mdS=1
File Type:
From:         us.rd.yahoo.com

it doesn't come up on Google or on symantec's virus database. Maybe you could write to yahoo and ask them what they're doing.

ah... I found something.
Though why that's coming from yahoo is beyond me. Maybe someone on the network is trying to send you something? Are you sure it's with yahoo?

... wait... I just read the second entry there. If it's a possible directX control, it sounds like a possible exploit/trojan/etc.

Now I'd definitely write to yahoo.

I've heard from other people that their Yahoo IM hasn't been working right the last couple of days. Perhaps the people who attacked MSN last week or whenever it was have now set their sights on yahoo.

New and Improved Yahoo! Mail - better than ever!

Since they don't have an "I'm being asked to download a deadly virus or spyware every time I try to log in" FAQ on this page, I'm assuming they don't want to know about it. But they do have plenty of "How do I do this" FAQs. Oh, yes. It MUST be user error.

Where did I put that gmail invitation?

If you need a gmail invitation, Old One, I've got one. In fact, I've got 4 or 5 or 6.

I have six. And Gmail is an evil, Illuminati run program designed to spy on you. They refer to it as "The New Echelon" because unlike echelon, you're GIVING them transcripts of everything. I am putting myself in danger by posting this.

Sinister means "Left-Handed" y'know.

I take that back. I also currently have 50. Sheesh. I couldn't even give away six--I'm thinking the market's saturated.

I don't really like gmail for most things, but it works for the listservs I'm on because of the way it threads conversations. For some reason my school email forwards there, too--I think I thought I'd change completely when I first got it. So I always have to remember to check that one for school stuff. I'm gonna have to remember to change that back sometime.

Old One, if you're interested, here's a way to contact them.

Type in "possible virus" in their search box. When the results pop up answer "Not even close!" to their "Are we answering your question?" on the right hand margin. A box will pop up with a text box that you can type your problem into and submit to Yahoo.

Just so you know, I don't think it's BYU's server, because I'm not having a problem.

That's icky, Old One.  Is it happening at the lab too, or just your home computer?
