Hallowmere site live
« on: March 26, 2007, 10:01:13 PM »
What do you guys think? I love it.

And there's an Easter egg. (And a pseudo Easter egg that we'll hopefully have something under later.)

Edit: Fell tells me it's not a real Easter egg. But it's still cool!

Well, easter eggs or no, it's a beautiful site. Things are looking good!

It'll lead to something eventually. This is just the beginning. Lots of interesting stuff to come, especially in August right before the launch of the book. This is the splash page, the initial launch site.

Maybe a "coming soon" label would be good there, it's kind of annoying to think it's supposed to do something when it doesn't and worse off when you do add things to that animation people will be less inclined to click on it since it doesn't do anything now and so they won't think to click on it in a few months.

Also I'd change how the "Sample Chapters" link works, it's not a good idea to have readers hunt for information by having the label missing until you rollover something without having a clear alternate method for getting to that information especially on something as important as Sample Chapters.  Without rolling over that envelope a reader won't even know they are available--which is a problem--and while chances are most people will roll over the graphic it's best not to assume that such an event will happen all the time.

I know you don't have a lot of control over the websites, but it's something to mention if the situation arises.

I kind of agree on the treasure box thing, but I totally disagree on the sample chapter envelope. It's a cool easter eggy thing that looks great and has a nice tie to the way the book is written.

Whenever the choice is between usability and cool you should always choose usability, especially on something that can affect sales, you never know if that person who didn't notice the sample chapter would have been the person who would have boughten the book if they had seen it.
