Deseret Book buys Seagull and Covenant Communications.

Skar:
Ah.  Suddenly the "We won't sell our titles to Seagull anymore, neener neener." move by DB  a few months ago makes perfect sense.  They wanted to hurt Seagull/Covenant to the point that the owner would sell, so they do something that would hurt their own sales in the short term in order to get a buyout that will benefit them in the long term.

Slimy bastards.  Does the church still own DB?  Behavior like this seems to contradict a few LDS values.

As always, maybe I'm wrong.  Am I being overly cynical here?

Firemeboy:
My favorite comment on one of the boards was from somebody who was defending DB for their tactics.  It went something like, "Gospel principles have no place in business practices."

He was dead serious, and apparently entirely correct.  :)

Firemeboy:
For those interested in this issue, there is a great podcast on the topic over at http://www.mormonstories.org/

John Dehlin always does great interviews, and this time is no exception.

House of Mustard:
Ditto.  It's a great podcast.  Long, but really interesting.
