Japanese ELANTRIS
« on: August 28, 2006, 07:38:21 PM »
Here's the link:

Anyone want to do some translating for us?  Are those two alternate covers, or did the book get printed in two volumes?  Can you order it off of the web page, or is this just the publisher's website?

I really wish I could contact the publisher myself.  Now that I've lost to Scalzi, I have to look toward next year in Japan.  That means getting the Japanese people to read ELANTRIS!

Its printed in two parts and you can order it from that site and they sell for around $10 each.

Also those are two very cool covers, very Amano-ish.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

Humm lets see, the full title of Elantris in Japanese is:

Elantris: Sasareta Miya no monogatari

or Elantris: Legend of the Closed City.

Sasareta is  to be caused shut (passive) or Kusarisareta is another possible read as To be Chained.

Miya is metropolis or capital

monogatari is legend, story, tale.

Yes, I like the covers a lot.  They're particularly good compared to some of those around them.

Is there any contact info for the publisher besides a customer support email or a webmaster email?

Amazon's links for them (if you were planning on ordering one I'd suggest from them, even though this is the Japanese site they do have international shipping)

Not that I could find.  There's a phone, fax and street address though.

Wouldn't Joshua have some contact info considering he's the one that got the deal in the first place?

Ha! One would think.

This is sweet. No surprise it's in two parts--they do that a lot. Even to Harry Potter.

Judging from Greg Egan winning the Seiyun award 6 (?) times in a row, I'm thinking that the SF-con-going Japanese fan prefers hard SF over fantasy. And I have no idea what kind of numbers they'll come out in to a Worldcon in their country. We could have very interesting awards next year. Heck, it's a surprise to me that there's no Japanese city gunning for a 2009 bid. ;)
All Saiyuki fans should check out Dazzle! Emotionally wrenching action-adventure and quirky humor! (At least read chapter 6 and tell me if you're not hooked.) Volume 10 out now!

I liked the second one most. First time I've seen an Elantrian rendered artistically (Raoden, I'm betting), and I think the representation is snazzy.
Lord Ruler and Lady Protractor were off on vacation, thus the angles running amok.

Me likes.

I'll be the voice of dissent and say I don't like those covers.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)
