If Mistborn was a movie. . . .
« on: November 15, 2006, 12:07:15 AM »
So, if Mistborn was made into a movie, who would be the dream cast? I remember one person mentioning that Summer Glau (River from Firefly) would make a good Vin. Personally, I'd go with Anna Paquin (Roque from X-Men) because I like her better as an actress, though I don't know how she'd be with the physical element of the role.

I have a harder time visualizing actors for the men. Who would make a good Elend? or Khelsier?
If I had any clue, would I be here?

As I brought up before, in another Mistborn movie thread, I kept on thinking of Owen Wilson when reading Khelsier's lines, I'm sure we can fit Ben Stiller into the movie somewhere too.  Maybe change Vin's role to a guy and instead of going to balls he goes to boxing matches, and Elend is the wanna-be sidekick of the two.

Oh yea...That's a movie right there.

dang, Sprig. We need to get working on the screenplay adaptation RIGHT NOW!

At the boxing matches we can have him fighting all our favorite 80s stars: Anthony Michael Hall, John Cryer, the Coreys. And heck, as long as we're gender bending, make Elend a girl and have Molly Ringwald play 'er.

Dang it, there's another Mistborn movie thread?  I thought I looked, but obviously not thoroughly enough.  Sorry.
If I had any clue, would I be here?

Vin: Summer Glau is definitely what I imagine Vin to look like.

Elend: Joaquin Phoenix seems the bookish type, yet has depth.

Kelsier: Christian Bale because he's good at being emotionally complex.

Dockson: Alan Tudyk

Clubs: Timothy Spall

Marsh: Peter Wingfield

I still need to think more about the others.

Isn't Christian Bale too young to play Khelsier?  I'd be worried that people would think he was supposed to be a love interest rather than a father figure for Vin.  Also, can he be cheerful enough?

Your choice of Spall for Clubs is interesting.  I had always pictured Clubs as tall and thin, not short and round.  I'm trying to imagine it.

Hrm. Bale might be too young, but he's, what, 31 or so? So not that young, since Vin is in her late teens. I dunno. I'm having a hard time coming up with someone to play Kelsier. He's such an original.

As for Spall/Clubs, I imagines Clubs as skinny/tall, too, but I think Spall would give the character the right feel, which I think in this case is just as important as appearance.

See, I imagine Spall as looking more like Breeze.

I think Bale would make a better young lord ruler than Kelsier.  I'm not sure why.

Personally, I think he could do either. Then again, I think the best Lord Ruler would be Joaquin Phoenix. It's hard to say with Kelsier, his character has such an uncommon mixture of humor and deadly seriousness. Johnny Depp, perhaps?

Oooh! Depp would be a great Kellsier, I think. He's got the off-beat charisma, intensity, and the looks. Phoenix could make a decent Elend. I really can't see Tudyck as Breeze though. I'm not sure he could pull off the smooth aristocratic gentility and humor that Breeze exudes so well. I've seen Tudyk in a serious role, but he still has too much of a "goofy" edge to his acting, imo.

Anyhow, I ought to do some research. We need to find a good Sazed and Spook too!
