It's ironic because barenaked ladies are usually a good thing.

But the band, Barenaked Ladies, just stinks.   I can't stand them.  Their sound grates on my nerves so much that if a song of theirs comes on the radio I can't go back to that station for hours afterwards for fear of hearing it again.

BNL is a much better band than Porn is for viewing.

I like 'em. They have musical class and a penchant for witty lyrics.

I'm with SE. They do have funny lyrics, and... they obviously enjoy what they do and have fun being a band, so I give them credit for that.

I'm a fan, and own most of their albums, although I have to disagree about the lyrics -- on a great many of their songs, the lyrics seem like they're trying WAY to hard to be funny -- songs like 'New Kid On The Block' or 'Sell, Sell, Sell' are embarrassingly awful -- the kind of lyrics you'd expect snickering 14 year olds to write, where they think the premise of the song is so funny (New Kids on the Block, for example) that we'll laugh at any jokes they make.

Their nonsensical stuff (like 'One Week', 'These Apples', etc.) is good, but their best stuff, in my opinion is their more serious songs -- like 'When I Fall' or 'Hello City' (which is why I think Rock Spectacle is still their best overall album so far).

Since most of their songs that I have heard on the radio fall into the top category I haven't bothered to hear anything else by them.  I take y'all think it would be worth it?

When I Fall is excellent, and possibly my favorite of theirs--it's amazing what clever people can come up with when they try to do something other than just be clever. I also like Pinch Me, which actually got a lot of airtime, because it's such an able, layered commentary on America's culture of apathy.

"On an evening such as this, it's hard to tell if I exist.
If I pack my car and leave this town, who'll notice that I'm not around?
I could leave but I'll just stay--all my stuff's here anyway."

Of course, even that song dips into the trite and cutesy, most notably with the underwear line, but I have to respect their talent.
