I don't usually dig rap or mash-ups, but the Queen / 50 Cent mash-up "Q-Unit" is freakin' awesome!

Great Big Sea, "Excursion around the Bay."
I first got into these guys when I was looking for music to uh... steal...

Anyway, a friend I hadn't talked to in a long time recommended them. I downloaded. I liked. It's like Canadian Irish folk-pop.

I'm also listening to Strawberry Switchblade. Never has a girly named band try to sound so tough and failed so badly. There's a lot "Strawberry" in their music, but very very little "switchblade"

I just grabbed Rush from my dad's changer, and have been listening to it for the last few days. It is kind of funny, because back when I first listened to Rush, I wasn't really a fan. (Keep in mind that I was very young) I told my brother that I didn't like Rush very much, and he spent several weeks on and off trying to convince me that I liked Rush. I suppose it must have worked, because here, years later, I like what I hear.

Bob... Bob... Bob... ! Dylan! Holy Frihoulay! I got the "No Direction Home" soundtrack back when it came out, after having heard "Tangled Up In Blue" in my Hum300 class last semester and having learned a bit about Dylan in my Beat Generation class as well. MmmmMMmmM!

I now also own 4 other cds of his. So much goodlyness.

I as well have bought two harmonicas of my own which I play with a frightful vigor. These are instruments of much fun and amusement. This is what life is about. I'll stop before I start tirading.

Liking Rush takes (like Jazz) both a certain musical maturity and a specific musical aesthetic. Having one, without the other is usually not enough (though Rush is a little more accessible than a lot of Jazz). "Xanadu," for example, is probably the pinnacle of complex drumming in a non-solo. Peart manages to weave three simultaneous rhythms/beats seemlessly with the rest of the song. Usually, when an instrument is used with such virtuosity, it stands out and diminishes the rest of the song.

Anyway, Rush is awesome, but I was kind of blah about them at first as well. It wasn't until I started getting all hoity-toity holier-than-thou with my music tastes that I started to try to understand them. Now that I'm (largely) over that sense of superiority, I still find them amazing, but I don't have to jam then down everyone else's throat.

Smackdowns. Tasty!

I've discovered the mirthfully spectacular (though edited version of) Pink's "Stupid Girls." Ah, the laughter. Heard part of it on the radio and downloaded it the next day. It's awesome.

I picked up Johnny Cash's "The Legend of Johnny Cash" this week. It really is awesome folk music with other crazy spiffy electric guitar riffs and Cash's soothing rthymic voice.

Although there's no harmonica's being blown in the album, it's still an excellent listen.
