Cool Lyrics the 2nd
« on: April 24, 2005, 12:36:32 AM »
Girl I already told you I love you; I already loaned you my ring.
So how come just when everything was going so good, you gotta bring up this commitment thing?
You say you ain't gettin' 100% of my love and I admit it's true.  But long before today  I gave most of it away - so there's hardly any left for you.

I'm saving 4% for a dear, dear friend friend who's lying sick in bed.
And 8% for a pal of mine who fell and hit her head.
6% for my Springsteen tapes; 8% for my car,
12 for the good old U.S.A, and 5% for my guitar!

But I can give you 8% of my love, 8% of my love.
8 hundredths of the time you're the only girl I'm dreaming of.
Yeah yeah yeah! 8% of my heart, 8% of my soul.
Just point-oh-eight, but girl you're great - you're the only one that makes me whole.

(But when you add it up, that only comes to 43 - fourty-three!
That should leave 57 all for me - all for me!)

I'm sorry hon, that's not the situation.
I've just begun, don't spoil my concentration.

Now there's 9% for Miss Snodgrass who tutors me in science.  And add another 10% for the New York football Giants. 4% for my mom and dad, 8% for my bike.  18% for my leather jacket baby - if you don't like it you can take a hike!

'Cause you still got 8% of my love! 8% of my love.
8 hundredths of the time you're the only girl I'm dreaming of.
Ye-aaaa-ah.
8% of my love.  8% will have to do.
I already went and spent 92%, but I'm saving all the rest for you.
I already went and spent 92% but I'm saving all the rest for you.

My friends are so depressed
I feel the question
Of your loneliness
Confide...
'cause I'll be on your side
You know I will, you know I will.

Ex girlfriend called me up
Alone and desperate
On the prison phone
They want...
to give her 7 years
For being sad.

And I've got the blues for you
And I've got the blues for you
And I'll bust my brains out for you
And I'll tear my hair out
I'm gonna tear my hair out just for you
If you don't believe what I'm singing
At three o'clock in the morning, babe, well
I'm singing my song for you

Sometimes you get what you want
sometimes you get what you need
but you're always gonna get what you deserve

It's all about what you want,
if you can get what you need.
But you're always gonna get what you deserve.

Two for today:

Los Refresments:
"There ain't no moral to this story at all, and anything I tell you very well may be a lie. There ain't no moral to these stories at all, and everything I tell you you can bet will be a lie."

It just goes to lend credence to my theory that most poets are less interested in telling the story and more interested in using words.

and Too Much Joy:
"You make me doubt that I'm not stupid."
Just cuz, yeah.

THe children are clapping as I fall on the floor
My heart's torn and broken, and they just scream for more
If I'm not the sole fool who pulls his trousers down
then dear Madam Barnum, I resign as clown.

Roll us both down a mountain and I'm sure the fat man would win
If I had any clue, would I be here?

There's an old Virginian vibraphone
With a calculated gait
And a man who thinks he's Al Capone
With a cumberbund and cape

Don't criticize what a vicar would prize in you
And talk to the man if you feel he needs talking to
And the hobbit on the rocks is crying
And the fish upon the docks are dying

There's an orchestra in rococo
and an insulated dwarf
And the ships are sinking in the sea
As they sail from the shores

Don't criticize what a vicar would prize in you

And the hobbit on the rocks is crying
And the fish upon the docks are dying
And the hobbit on the rocks is crying
For the grunion in the sand entwining

Don't criticize what a vicar would prize in you
And talk to yourself if you feel you need talking to

Chewing on a piece of grass, walking down the road.
Tell me, how long you gonna stay here, Joe?
Some people say this town don't look good in snow.
But you don't care, I know.

Ventura Highway in the sunshine,
Where the days are longer,
the nights are stonger than moonshine.
You're gonna go, I know.

'Cause the free wind is blowin' through your hair
And the days surround your daylight there
Seasons crying, no despair
Alligator lizards in the air
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier.

I used to be a hugemongous fan of theirs. Toad was the last concert I saw before my mission (narrowly beating out Ray Davies, long story, another thread, another time). I still have the T-Shirt, which always raises lots of questions. Have the Space Ghost ep on tape two when what's his bucket appeared and quoted Monty Python
Corporeal Brown has always creaped me out, and lots of hte songs on "Pale" have brilliant mood creation. Very easy to identify with. Very evocative.

Watching me
A bird upon a roof with coal-black feathers
Cocks his head
To catch my eye
Wandering and unfocused I cannot meet his stare
He takes to wing
Silhouette against the sun
Surrounded by the glare

Funny how the days go by invisibly
And faster than I realize the things I think about
Strange to find the calendar my enemy
And scared that when I die so will the things
I think about

I have all their cds, and a whole lot of bootlegged concerts. The concerts have been posted on the internet with Glen and the rest of the band's blessings, with the only rule being no videos (on his website Glen said that videos of himself creep him out or something like that). I'll post the link:
http://www.toadbase.com/welcome.aspx

Have you heard any of Glen's solo stuff? I saw him in concert recently, and it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Search out one of his solo acoustic sets in the archives on that site, you won't be disappointed.

Is Glen's site the best place to get the concerts as well?
