Look at his hands...

I watched Jedi with the commentary on and Lucas pretty much said this (Anakin/Dooku) was going to happen while talking about the Vader/Luke fight.

There's also a new movie-spanning Vanity Fair cover.

To me, it looks like he's restrained. It could be part of his plan: setting up Anakin to "rescue" him from Dooku.

Lucas mentiones in the audio commentary for Jedi that the Emperor was planning on replacing Vader with Luke because Anakin/Vader lost some of his power with the Force as he became more machine. He goes on to say something about the similarties with Anakin/Dooku. Maybe the Emperor was hoping Luke would turn and kill Vader? Sounds like his style.

A few EU books & RPG materials mention that in ESB, Vader is fully planning on turning Luke and 86-ing the Emperor.

It would also be entirely possible to turn Luke and not have him become Sith.

yeah, see, the point of my link was that it was a joke. Since, y'know, the Sith do that because they need to remain hidden, and when one of those Sith is the Emperor, it hardly seems necessary anymore.

If I see a chance to expound on my area of expertise I will always take it, I'm funny like that.

The Rule of Two was mainly to keep the amount of backstabbing to a minimum, so the Sith didn't try to wipe themselves out again.

Edit: I got the new Star Wars Insider magazine. Among the Ep3 preview photos is one of Palpatine and the caption mentions something about him being releassed from his shackles on a Trade Fed ship.
