I usually get my garlic dose from massive amounts of Szechuan, hot-and-sour soup.  It's chicken soup on steroids and clears my sinuses and any rheum from my eyes.  20 oz of a good HS soup and I'm ready to forget I have an infection. :)

I finally did our taxes last week—we couldn't do them before because I have a trust that always waits until the last minute before they mail out the paperwork. Which also requires me to file nonresident Illinois taxes. Argh. The Illinois taxes are pretty easy though so next year instead of paying for the illinois addin I'm going to just do it myself mostly copying from this year's forms.

I would be so lost on tax day without TurboTax. Their business thrives on my dependence, but I don't care because it makes my life easier.

I read a review that said TaxAct was just as good and way way cheaper. I'm considering next year.

I think TurboTax was very easy to use though, and relatively painless considering I was doing my income taxes. (Karen used to use the H&R Block tax program but it choked on my trust thing.)

I always get mine done free.  Then again, that's what happens when you know a few tax professionals. ha ha.  My friend Harrison literally just did his today and got them sent at like 11:20 . . . I was like . . . seriously, wow!

It was just this year that I realized what a large percentage of taxpayers hire professionals or buy software.  I've always done mine myself, by hand, even when I was self-employed - and this year, I also filed for my sister who lives overseas.  It's a pain but it's not impossible if you're willing to spend a few hours at it.  In fact, the most time-consuming part was collecting all the relevant financial records - which needs to be done in any case.  I'd recommend anyone with moderate intelligence and ability to follow directions trying it, if they want to save a little money.  You can get all the forms and instructions online, and the IRS also has helplines to call if you have questions.

My wife and I were supposed to close on our new house last month, but the builders slacked off a tad. If we are lucky, we will close tomorrow. However, we are going to be (nicely) kicked out of our current apartment to make room for the new renter on Saturday. So if we don't close tomorrow, we are boned. I guess I can't complain too much since we got our high quality tile basically for free, our $1500 fridge for $700, a $1200 crib/dresser set for $250, $8000 from the Feds, $6000 from the State of Utah, and $3000 from our lender.

Still, the prospect of not having our place done upsets me.

And I had to pay the Feds $400 on my taxes. Jerks.

So I totally hate windows!  This morning my laptop worked just fine. I turn it off come to class and when I try to turn it on I suddenly have no boot drive available .... Yay for reinstalling windows. [/sarcasm]
